Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Urie Sergeyev!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Grease St Pierre!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sergeyev is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
St Pierre fails with the takedown

and Sergeyev moves into the clinch.
St Pierre jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sergeyev walks away with a smile on his face. St Pierre gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Sergeyev misses with a few strikes there.
St Pierre slips a jab and a cross from Sergeyev.

Sergeyev closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming St Pierre to the mat! St Pierre manages to get full guard.

St Pierre has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sergeyev can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

St Pierre is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sergeyev is aware though and is defending well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

St Pierre working for a triangle but Sergeyev defends it easily.
Sergeyev knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for St Pierre on the ground.

St Pierre looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Sergeyev tries to free his leg and advance position but St Pierre is retaining full guard.
Sergeyev would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
St Pierre is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

St Pierre had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sergeyev defends it easily.

St Pierre is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Sergeyev sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed St Pierre's guard.

Sergeyev throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
St Pierre trying to control the position.
St Pierre is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Sergeyev on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sergeyev tries to get out of the position.
St Pierre prevents Sergeyev from improving his position.
Sergeyev wants to get back to his feet.
Sergeyev is looking to improve his position.
St Pierre is keen to just control but Sergeyev is a slippery customer.

St Pierre sitting and controlling from the half guard.

Sergeyev is trying to stand back up but St Pierre is controlling him
Sergeyev is staying active underneath St Pierre, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
St Pierre shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Sergeyev counters with a slapping leg kick.
Urie Sergeyev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Grease St Pierre.

Sergeyev closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming St Pierre to the mat! St Pierre manages to get full guard.
St Pierre pulls Sergeyev in close to prevent any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

St Pierre looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
St Pierre lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Sergeyev!
This has been an exciting period of action!
St Pierre takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Well, with St Pierre on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Sergeyev is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
St Pierre really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Sergeyev.
St Pierre trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Sergeyev tries to roll but St Pierre sticks to his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Grease St Pierre dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



St Pierre drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
St Pierre works to advance to full mount. Sergeyev defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Grease St Pierre has got the better of the ground game so far.

Sergeyev defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from St Pierre.
St Pierre wants to control the pace but Sergeyev is squirming around nicely.
Sergeyev wants to control but St Pierre is having none of it.
Sergeyev tries to get back to half guard but can't.
St Pierre moves to back control.
St Pierre wants to control but Sergeyev is keeping busy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
St Pierre might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Sergeyev kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Sergeyev trying to control the hands but St Pierre won't let him.
Sergeyev manages to reverse the position and now he's in St Pierre's guard. Nice work there by Sergeyev.

St Pierre has his feet on Sergeyev's thighs here. He's pushed Sergeyev off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Sergeyev screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

During a confident post fight interview, Grease St Pierre thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
