PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Theboss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Chase (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shirou Masuda and Yukihiro Yamamoto.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chase tries to clinch there but Theboss circles away.
Theboss fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Chase shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Chase prevents Theboss from improving his position.
Theboss knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Chase on the ground.
Still in half guard, Chase seems content to control.
Theboss wants to control but Chase passes into side.

Chase decides to stand back up. Chase steps back and let's Theboss get back to his feet.

Chase closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Theboss did well to prevent Chase getting side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Chase is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Theboss sees it coming and defends easily.

Chase takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Chase stands up from half guard.
Theboss will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Chase shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Theboss's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnny Chase has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Chase closes the distance and clinches up with Theboss, looking for a takedown. Chase pushes Theboss against the cage but Theboss circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Chase throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Theboss tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Chase is in Theboss's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Theboss is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Chase is aware though and is defending well.
Theboss is breathing heavily.
Chase postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Chase sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Chase's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Chase is pushing down on Theboss's leg trying to pass to half guard. Theboss is fighting to maintain full guard but Chase has managed to sneak the leg through.
Chase tries to pass to full mount but Theboss defends it.

Chase wants to take a breather but Theboss is having none of it.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Johnny Chase hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Theboss goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Theboss is trying hard to land a takedown here. Chase sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Patrick Theboss. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Chase just misses with a punch to the body.

Chase manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Theboss on his heels. He'll look to pass Theboss's guard now, I'm sure.
Theboss has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Chase has passed into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Chase lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Theboss down.
Chase happy to just control the position for now.
Chase is looking to take a break and control but Theboss is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Theboss takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chase has hold of Theboss's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Theboss tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Chase cranks the arm and Theboss screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Theboss, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
