PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Twig Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andreas Souwer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Souwer has chosen Metallica-Fuel as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Twig Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andreas Souwer!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souwer falls off balance throwing a combination
and Jones counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Jones gets to his feet - Souwer follows without any prompting.
Souwer throws a series of punches but Jones moves out of range.
Souwer tries to bum rush Jones with a series of wild strikes but Jones uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Souwer throws a left and a right that both miss
and Jones counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jones would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Souwer escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jones gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Souwer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Souwer is tightening it up a little... Jones has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Jones reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Jones taps out! Nice BJJ there by Souwer!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Andreas Souwer!
An intense looking Andreas Souwer took to the microphone post fight and gave a little speech: 'Thanks, I love you!'.
