PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Griff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Mincer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mincer has chosen worlds greatest as his entrance music. Mark Mincer will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryan Griff!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Mincer!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griff throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mincer's waist but Mincer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Griff off to one side.
Griff throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mincer looks for the body kick but Griff saw that one coming.

Griff gets the takedown into side control.
Griff lands an elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Griff happy to just control the position for now.
Griff with the ground and pound but Mincer regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Mincer regains full guard. Nicely done.
Griff looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Mincer has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Griff can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Griff landing with the ground and pound.

Mincer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Griff doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Griff manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Griff is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mincer keeping moving, preventing Griff from controlling successfully.
Griff postures up in Mincer's guard and throws a big left but Mincer blocks it.
Griff knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mincer on the ground.
Mincer keeping full guard, as Griff tries to pass.

Griff working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Griff has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Griff slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Mincer is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Griff postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Mincer throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Griff escapes and throws Mincer's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Mincer is working to avoid the ground and pound but Griff connects with a decent elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Griff trying to control the position but Mincer is working away.
Griff works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Mincer takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Griff grinds an elbow into Mincer's temple.
Griff is looking to take a break and control but Mincer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Griff just content to control the position.
Mincer looks gassed!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mincer is looking for a sweep.
Mincer manages to work his way to half guard, despite Griff's best efforts.
Griff content to control rather than advance.
Griff looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mincer with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mincer is staying active underneath Griff, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Griff is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Griff trying to control from half guard but Mincer is working away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Griff dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mincer tries to clinch up.
Mark Mincer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Griff will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Mincer moves into the clinch.
Griff has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Mincer avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Mincer looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Griff wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan Griff. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mincer working hard to break the clinch.
Griff changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Mincer fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Mincer lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Mincer.
Mincer misses with a few strikes there.
Griff misses with a series of wild punches.
Mincer thuds his shin into the meat of Griff's side.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mincer lands with a slapping head kick.

Mincer takes the fight into the clinch.
Griff has Mincer pressed against the cage, preventing Mincer from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Mincer is trying to break the clinch but Griff is controlling him.
A frustrated look appears on Griff's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Mincer landing knees to the head.


It looks like Ryan Griff has been cut.

Mincer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mincer rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Griff moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Griff takes a kick to the side of the head.
Griff avoids the head kick by Mincer.
Some wild striking there from Griff.
Mincer buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
A head kick from Mincer lands but Griff takes it in his stride.
Griff takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Griff fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mincer manages to avoid it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Griff tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mincer swivels and escapes.
Griff misses with a looping right.
Griff on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Griff feints and as Mincer raises his hands in defense, Griff changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Mincer looking for a guillotine here but Griff defends easily.
Griff wants to control from the top but Mincer keeps moving.

Griff working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Mincer's head.

Mincer is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Griff rolls with it to try and escape but Mincer cranks on the arm and Griff is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
