PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tanner Speed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Katsuji Rikidozan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Speed comes into the arena with Funky Kingston / Toots And The Maytals blaring out of the sound system. Rikidozan has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tanner Speed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Katsuji Rikidozan!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Speed throws a lazy uppercut
and Rikidozan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Speed throws a half hearted mid kick.
Speed fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Rikidozan checks it well.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Rikidozan.
Rikidozan thows a left - swing and a miss!
Rikidozan chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Speed can pounce on him.
Speed uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Rikidozan.
Rikidozan shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Speed scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Speed avoids the body shot from Rikidozan.
Speed is looking to slow Rikidozan down with leg kicks.
Rikidozan looks gassed!
Rikidozan tries to clinch there but Speed circles away.
Rikidozan throws a hook but Speed blocks it.
Speed wants to clinch up but Rikidozan keeps it at a distance.
The fighters circling - Rikidozan throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Rikidozan takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rikidozan misses with a head kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from Speed. Rikidozan does a little dance to reset his feet.
Rikidozan blocks the body kick.
Rikidozan throws a big shot that misses.
Speed throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Rikidozan misses with a straight left.
Speed throws a hook but Rikidozan blocks it.
Speed connects with a leg kick. Rikidozan looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Speed lands a high kick!
Speed lands an overhand right.
Speed scores with a leg kick.
A jab from Rikidozan misses.
Speed wants to clinch.

Speed has Rikidozan up against the cage in a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Speed misses with a knee to the head.
Speed connects with a knee to the head.
Rikidozan managing to block the knees to the body from Speed.
Speed landing knees to the head.
Speed landing knees to the body.
Rikidozan is trying to break the clinch but Speed has him pressed against the cage.
Speed is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Speed keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Rikidozan's efforts to push away.
A nice right hand lands inside from Speed.
Speed tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Rikidozan manages to break the clinch.
Rikidozan throws out a loose jab but Speed uses good head movement to avoid it.
Rikidozan moves in looking to clinch but Speed pushes him off.
Speed looks for the body kick but Rikidozan saw that one coming.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rikidozan lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Rikidozan finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Speed dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Rikidozan. That did some damage!
Rikidozan throws a leg kick but Speed sees it coming and moves out of range.

Speed closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Rikidozan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Speed throws a head kick but Rikidozan moves out of range.
A jab from Speed finds it's way through Rikidozan's defenses.
Speed misses with a body kick.
Speed looks to land a left hand but Rikidozan moved out of range nicely.
Speed tries a head kick but it misses.
Speed tries to clinch up but Rikidozan circles away and keeps his distance.
Speed lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Rikidozan takes a shot to the body in his stride.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Speed is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Speed plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rikidozan steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Speed.
Rikidozan blocks a leg kick.
A jab from Rikidozan misses.
Rikidozan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Speed moves away.
Speed uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Jab, jab by Speed - just one landing.
Speed tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A head kick misses from Speed.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Speed fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Rikidozan.
Rikidozan on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Rikidozan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Speed manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A head kick misses from Speed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tanner Speed dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Speed moves into the clinch successfully.
Speed lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Rikidozan has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Speed keeps control of Rikidozan as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Speed with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Speed with a knee to the head.
Rikidozan is trying to push Speed away but Speed has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Rikidozan tries to circle away but Speed has him pinned against the cage.
Speed using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Speed throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Rikidozan blocks it with crossed arms.
Speed tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Speed landing knees to the head.


Rikidozan is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Speed has Rikidozan pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. Rikidozan is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a big one sneaks through from Speed - that's hurt Rikidozan badly! Oh, another knee lands and Rikidozan is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but Rikidozan doesn't seem to be complaining.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knees). Tanner Speed!
