Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andy Westwood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marc Schmidt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Schmidt has chosen Rammstein - Feuer Frei as his entrance music. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Andy Westwood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marc Schmidt!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Westwood slips under a jab.
Westwood moves out of range as Schmidt throws a body kick.
Schmidt throws a right and a left that Westwood avoids nicely.

Westwood shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Westwood showed some decent athleticism there.
Westwood is trying to control the action in half guard but Schmidt is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Schmidt is trying to stand.
Schmidt won't allow Westwood to pass to mount.

Westwood is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Schmidt sees it coming and defends easily.
Schmidt is trying to stand back up but Westwood is controlling him
Westwood is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Westwood is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Schmidt is just riding it out for now. Westwood eventually gives up the hold.
Westwood wants to free his trapped foot but Schmidt is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Westwood decides to return to a standing position.
Westwood misses the shot to the body.
Schmidt throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Schmidt misses with a two punch combination.

Westwood is trying hard to land a takedown here. Schmidt sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Schmidt throws a solid leg kick but Westwood takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Schmidt.
Schmidt is looking to land body kicks.
Westwood has a takedown stuffed.
Schmidt throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Westwood drives through with a takedown into Schmidt's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Schmidt is looking to stand up but Westwood isn't so interested in that idea.
Westwood working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Schmidt's head.

Westwood trying to control but Schmidt is working from the bottom.
Westwood won't allow Schmidt to get back to his feet.
Westwood stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Schmidt swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Westwood's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Westwood wants to control from the top but Schmidt keeps moving.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Westwood won't allow Schmidt to get back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Andy Westwood.
Westwood has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andy Westwood. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Schmidt gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Westwood drops back, looking for a kneebar! Schmidt looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Schmidt looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Schmidt!
Schmidt tries to stand but Westwood controls the position and pulls Schmidt into his guard.
Schmidt must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Westwood has a closed guard, preventing Schmidt from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Westwood looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Westwood looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Schmidt is fending him off so far but Westwood persists. Nope, Schmidt circles away and we're back to standing.
Schmidt bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Schmidt throws a left and a right that both miss

and Westwood counters with a single leg into guard. Schmidt didn't expect that.
Westwood lands a couple of digs.
Westwood forces his way into half guard.

Westwood looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Schmidt pushes Westwood off looking to stand but Westwood dives back in and keeps control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Westwood trying to control the action but Schmidt is working from the bottom.
Schmidt is trying to stand back up but Westwood is controlling him
Andy Westwood overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Schmidt tries to kick Westwood off in order to stand up. Westwood Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Schmidt is trying to get back to his feet.
Westwood advances to full mount.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Westwood here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Westwood controlling the pace for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Westwood trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Schmidt is trying to stand but he's just given Westwood his back.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Schmidt has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.

Westwood biding his time, controlling Schmidt.

Westwood is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Schmidt knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Schmidt for a finish.

Schmidt is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Westwood gets his way!

Westwood is persistently looking for the submission but Schmidt is defending it well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Schmidt has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!


Schmidt throws a right hand that Westwood ducks under and follows up with a left that Westwood also avoids with ease.
Schmidt throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Westwood counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Schmidt's guard now.
Westwood won't allow Schmidt to get back to his feet.
Westwood pushing down on Schmidt's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Westwood works his foot free and advances to mount.
Schmidt is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Westwood with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

You get the feeling that Schmidt really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Westwood moves to back control.

Westwood is persistently looking for the submission but Schmidt is defending it well.
Schmidt looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.
Schmidt takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Westwood connects with a big shot to the side of Schmidt's head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Westwood is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Schmidt is tapping out! This one is all over!
