Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 18 - 0, fighting out of London, Dawkins Sanchez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Stephan Anton! The judges for this bout are William Gold, Colin Fotheringham and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sanchez. Anton throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Anton takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Sanchez fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Anton is out of range. Anton throws a right and a left that both miss. Sanchez throws a series of punches but Anton moves out of range. Anton scores with a nice right hand.
Anton avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Sanchez lands a really nice looking cross but Anton seems unphased.
Jab from Sanchez. Anton keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Anton tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Sanchez moves into the clinch. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Sanchez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Anton takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Anton tries to bum rush Sanchez with a series of wild strikes but Sanchez uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Sanchez tries for a takedown but Anton sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Anton feints and then cracks Sanchez's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Sanchez down.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Sanchez takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Stephan Anton is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Sanchez moves into the clinch successfully.
Anton's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Anton scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
It looks like Dawkins Sanchez has been cut. Sanchez defending well as Anton loads up on a big left hand. A slapping leg kick lands for Anton.
Anton throws a right and a left that Sanchez avoids nicely. Sanchez swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Sanchez lands with a good body shot. Sanchez uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Anton. Anton misses with a hook. Sanchez ducked under it nicely. Sanchez is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Anton's half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Sanchez stops Anton from getting back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sanchez missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Sanchez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Anton pushes Sanchez off but Sanchez dives into side control.
Anton prevents Sanchez from improving position. Sanchez tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sanchez has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Sanchez throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Anton is trying to buck Sanchez off. Sanchez fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Sanchez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Sanchez is trying to ground and pound but Anton uses the momentary lack of control by Sanchez to regain half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sanchez is trying to control. Anton wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Anton wants to get back to his feet.
Sanchez thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Sanchez keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Sanchez prevents Anton from standing back up.
Sanchez tries to pass the half guard into mount. Anton knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Anton kicks Sanchez off and gets back to his feet. Anton tries a head kick but it misses.
Sanchez closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Anton quickly recovers to half guard. Sanchez in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Anton tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Sanchez!
