2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sadaharu Tanikawa! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tanikawa manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Bhreithiun on his heels. He'll look to pass Bhreithiun's guard now, I'm sure. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Tanikawa controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Tanikawa throws a big right hand that misses. Tanikawa connects with a couple of short punches. Bhreithiun looking to control.
Tanikawa is looking to work some ground and pound but Bhreithiun has wrist control. Tanikawa scoring with some ground and pound. Bhreithiun is trying to control the position but Tanikawa postures up. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Tanikawa postures up in Bhreithiun's guard and throws a big left but Bhreithiun blocks it. Tanikawa must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Tanikawa trying to control but Bhreithiun is working from the bottom. Bhreithiun working a defensive guard here.
Tanikawa trying to control the position from guard on top but Bhreithiun is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tanikawa scoring with punches to the head and body. Tanikawa is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Bhreithiun keeping moving, preventing Tanikawa from controlling successfully. Tanikawa missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Bhreithiun tries to clinch but Tanikawa moves out of range. Tanikawa gets the takedown into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bhreithiun is trying to improve his position. Tanikawa trying to control the action but Bhreithiun is working from the bottom. Tanikawa is chipping away with strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! You can see the frustration on Bhreithiun's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Bhreithiun is not content to let Tanikawa control the position. Tanikawa lands an elbow. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tanikawa works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tanikawa trying to control the action but Bhreithiun is working from the bottom. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Tanikawa controlling the position from side mount. Tanikawa landing strikes. Bhreithiun is being controlled here. Sloppy strikes there by Tanikawa. Tanikawa with the ground and pound but Bhreithiun regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Tanikawa is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tanikawa working over Bhreithiun with some ground and pound. Bhreithiun looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Tanikawa throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Tanikawa passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Bhreithiun! Bhreithiun is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Tanikawa unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Bhreithiun wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Tanikawa celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
