Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A head kick misses from Mendes.
Mendes thuds a left hand into Vasquez's body.
Vasquez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Mendes decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Vasquez's guard.
Mendes wants to get up but he can't break Vasquez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Mendes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Vasquez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mendes has managed to get both his arms back between Vasquez's legs - danger averted.
Vasquez is trying to keep Mendes in close.

Vasquez wants to get back to his feet but Mendes is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Vasquez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mendes manages to break the clinch.
Mendes throws a right and a left that both miss.
Vasquez tries for a takedown but Mendes circles away easily
and Mendes counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mendes.

Vasquez tries to work over Mendes's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Vasquez looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

and Mendes counters with a three punch combo that has Vasquez backing up. Vasquez nods at Mendes to acknowledge the strikes.
Vasquez is breathing heavily.
Vasquez doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Mendes counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mendes gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Mendes misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Oh Vasquez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Mendes is looking for a takedown. Wow, that's a brutal slam - Vasquez is in big trouble! Mendes is landing strikes from the mount and this one is all over! The ref jumps in to save a confused looking Vasquez. Poor guy.
