PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sid Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesse Leis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Savage comes into the arena with the scatman blaring out of the sound system. Leis has chosen No Sleep - Wiz Khalifa as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sid Savage! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jesse Leis! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Leis misses with a straight right. Savage misses with a lunging right hand
and Leis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Leis. Leis scoring with some ground and pound. Leis wants to control from the top but Savage keeps moving. Savage keeping full guard, as Leis tries to pass. Leis trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Leis throws a big elbow that misses. Leis landing with the ground and pound. Leis looking to pass the guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Leis won't allow Savage to get back to his feet. Savage is wriggling around but Leis manages to pass to half guard.
Leis prevents Savage from standing back up.
Savage is not content to let Leis control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Leis missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Leis looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Leis throwing shots but Savage is blocking nicely. Leis thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Savage's head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Savage is staying active underneath Leis, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Savage looks like he's trying to stand up.
Leis is looking for a kimura but Savage is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Leis to get the leverage. Savage wants to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Leis is nestled in close to Savage, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Leis missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Leis is looking for a kimura but Savage is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Leis to get the leverage. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Leis connects with a nice short shot to Savage's temple. Savage keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Leis thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Savage's head. This has been an exciting period of action! Leis throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Leis uses his free foot to push down on Savage's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Savage. Savage is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Leis is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Savage to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Savage shrugs it off. Leis is in the full mount, landing strikes. Savage is trying to stand. Leis cracks Savage with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Savage is rocked!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Leis unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Savage wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Leis celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jesse Leis! Jesse Leis very nearly forgot to thank BALCO UNIFORM amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
