Putnel's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Let It Rock. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Putnel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thomas Thiessen!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Steve Erwin and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick from Thiessen lands but Putnel takes it in his stride.


It looks like John Putnel has been cut.
Putnel slaps away a takedown attempt from Thiessen, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Putnel goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Thiessen misses with a takedown attempt - Putnel sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Putnel tries to clinch up.
Putnel keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
John Putnel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thomas Thiessen.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Putnel misses with a combination
and Thiessen connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Putnel is breathing heavily.
Thiessen wants to clinch up but Putnel keeps it at a distance.
Putnel falls off balance throwing a combination

and Thiessen counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Putnel's guard now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Putnel looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Thiessen passes into half guard.
Thiessen is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Thiessen is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Putnel has managed to free his arm - good work.

Thiessen stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
John Putnel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Putnel tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Thiessen lands a head kick. Putnel smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Thiessen lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Thiessen clinches.
Thiessen pressing his opponent against the cage.
Thiessen goes for a takedown in the clinch but Putnel prevents it.
Thiessen tries to land knees in the clinch but Putnel avoids the damage to the body.
Putnel has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Thiessen has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Putnel uses from the top position.
Thiessen doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Putnel tries to free his leg and advance position but Thiessen is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Putnel prevents Thiessen from getting back to his feet.
Putnel postures up.

Thiessen had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Putnel defends it easily.
Putnel is looking to work some ground and pound but Thiessen has wrist control.
Thiessen preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Putnel throws a big elbow that misses.
Putnel throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Thiessen has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Putnel doesn't defend quickly enough and Thiessen has managed to lock this one up! Can Putnel escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Thiessen on a fantastic submission victory.
