PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Robert Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johny Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Johny Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Sam Margolis and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williams tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Williams.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Hughes is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Williams is controlling him well.

Williams wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hughes, who protects the arm well.
Williams remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Hughes tries to bench press Williams off him but Williams keeps the position.

Hughes closes the distance and clinches up with Williams, looking for a takedown. Hughes pushes Williams against the cage but Williams circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Williams is defended easily by Hughes.

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Williams. Hughes shrugs it off though.
Williams takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Hughes throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Williams.

Williams fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hughes, pushing him back against the cage.

Hughes takes a knee to the side of the body.
Williams drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hughes pulls his leg out and moves away.

Williams tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hughes swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Nice body kick from Williams.
Hughes throws a nice looking combination but Williams bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Johny Hughes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hughes has a takedown stuffed.
Williams connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Hughes's hands.
Williams ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hughes moves away.
Williams misses with a head kick.
Hughes misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Hughes tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Williams manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Hughes bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Williams's head backwards.
Williams tries a head kick but it misses.

Hughes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Williams's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Hughes looks to score with a jab to the body but Williams is just out of range.
Hughes shoots in looking for a takedown. Williams tries to sprawl out of it but Hughes keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Williams manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
