Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Cian McGarrity (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy McDonald (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGarrity comes to the cage accompanied by Irish Fighting Song - We Come in Pieces. Cian McGarrity had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 156.1lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDonald lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
McDonald shoots in and drives through. McGarrity sprawls well.
McDonald ducks under a wild hook from McGarrity.
Cian McGarrity seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McGarrity has managed to clinch.
McDonald goes for a takedown in the clinch but McGarrity prevents it.
McGarrity throws a punch but it's blocked by McDonald.
McGarrity misses with some punches.
McDonald breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
McDonald avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
McGarrity defending well as McDonald loads up on a big left hand.
McDonald stalks McGarrity and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into McGarrity's face. McGarrity staggers backwards, shaken.
McDonald misses with a wild body shot.
McGarrity moves out of range of the strikes.
McGarrity paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
McGarrity throws a sloppy head kick and McDonald moves out of range easily.
McGarrity throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck McDonald on the side of the head.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from McGarrity lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and McDonald has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from McDonald and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

McGarrity throws a series of punches but McDonald avoids them all with ease.

McDonald has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from McGarrity.
McGarrity throws a right and a left that McDonald avoids nicely.
McGarrity lands a straight punch to the body, keeping McDonald at a distance.

McGarrity rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but McDonald moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
McGarrity tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. McDonald manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
McDonald changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McGarrity tries to avoid it but McDonald manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McGarrity to the ground. McGarrity escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Cian McGarrity has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tommy McDonald.
McDonald fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McGarrity avoids it really well and circles away.
McDonald rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and McGarrity connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
McGarrity connects with a leg kick. McDonald looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

McGarrity keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
McDonald on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by McGarrity. McGarrity obviously looking to wear him down.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
McGarrity throws out a loose jab but McDonald uses good head movement to avoid it.
McDonald misses with an uppercut.
McDonald missing with a left hand there. McGarrity was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
McDonald looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
McGarrity feints a jab promting McDonald to slip. McGarrity then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. McDonald slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
It looks like Tommy McDonald has been cut.
Good leg kick by McGarrity there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
McDonald shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in McGarrity's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McGarrity looking to hit a scissor sweep but McDonald is one step ahead there.

McGarrity wants to get back to his feet but McDonald is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

McDonald stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McGarrity swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McDonald lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
McGarrity throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
McGarrity walks into a stiff left hand from McDonald.

McGarrity tries to clinch but McDonald is having none of it.
McGarrity thows a body shot but no joy.
McGarrity throws a looping overhand right but McDonald ducks down to avoid it.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Cian McGarrity.
