Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kai Melekalikimaka! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Noel Jackson! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Edson Gomes and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Melekalikimaka moves in looking to clinch but Jackson pushes him off. Jackson is looking to clinch. Jackson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Melekalikimaka fails to land with a series of punches.
Jackson tries to clinch but Melekalikimaka is having none of it. Melekalikimaka looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Melekalikimaka postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Melekalikimaka could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Jackson lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Melekalikimaka! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jackson wants to get back to his feet but Melekalikimaka is holding on tight.
Melekalikimaka sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Jackson is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jackson wants to pass the guard but Melekalikimaka is defending well. Melekalikimaka gets full guard. Jackson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Jackson looking to pass the guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Melekalikimaka has his feet on Jackson's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Jackson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Melekalikimaka paws at him with a jab and circles away. Jackson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Melekalikimaka tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Melekalikimaka takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Melekalikimaka shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jackson's guard. Melekalikimaka is breathing heavily. Jackson controls Melekalikimaka momentarily but Melekalikimaka frees himself. Jackson had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Melekalikimaka is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Jackson Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Melekalikimaka's back instead. Melekalikimaka wants to escape the position.
Jackson is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Melekalikimaka knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Melekalikimaka for a finish.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Melekalikimaka fending off the submission attempt from Jackson. Melekalikimaka trying to get back to his feet but Jackson is in full control for now. Melekalikimaka defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Melekalikimaka is in bad spot here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jackson is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Melekalikimaka has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Melekalikimaka is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Jackson gets his way!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Jackson is working for a rear naked choke. Melekalikimaka is not defending it well and Jackson has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Melekalikimaka refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Melekalikimaka's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Noel Jackson!
