Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Haste The Day! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Denny Prestol! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Prestol throws a hook but The Day blocks it. The Day shoots in looking for a takedown. Prestol tries to sprawl out of it but The Day keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Prestol manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. The Day fails to land the takedown. The Day displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Prestol throws out the jab. Prestol swings widly with a right hand
and The Day counters by clinching up. The Day drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Prestol gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Haste The Day. That's going to take a lot out of him. The Day is trying to push Prestol away but Prestol has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Prestol is trying to break the clinch but The Day has him pressed against the cage. The Day trying to land knees to the body.
Prestol breaks from the clinch.
Prestol is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. The Day staying out of range there. Prestol works the jab nicely. The Day dives in and grabs Prestol's left leg, looking for a takedown. Prestol pushes down on The Day's head and hops out. Prestol connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed The Day momentarily.
Denny Prestol seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's one minute gone in the round. The Day gets a takedown into half guard. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. The Day is working for a kimura but Prestol is defending it quite comfortably.
The Day tries to pass the half guard into mount. Prestol knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. The Day seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Prestol is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
