Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Leo Barros! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Apollo Anderson! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Kenichi Hosakawa and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Anderson turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Anderson looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Barros takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Barros throws out a leg kick but Anderson moves out of range and Barros only half commits. A big left from Anderson misses. Barros fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Decent striking displayed by Anderson there. Anderson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Barros napping and manages to drive through into side control! Barros is looking for a sweep. Anderson throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Barros works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. Barros tries to roll over but Anderson keeps him under control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Anderson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Barros makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Barros. Anderson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Anderson chips away with some ground and pound. Barros working a defensive guard here.
Anderson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Anderson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Anderson lands a couple of decent looking shots. Barros trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Anderson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Anderson trying to control but Barros is working from the bottom. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Anderson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Anderson with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Barros looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Anderson is defending well. Barros quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Anderson has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Barros celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
