Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Andrei Avleski! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Janek Papieros! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Marco Blurström.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Some wild striking there from Avleski.
Avleski closes the distance and clinches. Avleski misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Avleski keeps control of Papieros as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Papieros is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Avleski escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Papieros defending well as Avleski loads up on a big left hand. Avleski fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Papieros sprawls well initially but Avleski persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Papieros trying to hold on to Avleski's head to control him but Avleski postures up.
Papieros works his way to full guard. Good work. Avleski has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Papieros is proving hard to escape from. Avleski controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Avleski postures up.

and Papieros counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Papieros takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Avleski throws a combination that misses and Papieros counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Papieros looks gassed! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Papieros trying to control from Avleski's half guard. Avleski has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Avleski tries to land a sweep but no joy. Papieros must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Avleski bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Papieros's guard. Avleski gets to his feet - Papieros follows without any prompting. Papieros gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Papieros misses with a takedown attempt and Avleski counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Nice body kick from Avleski. Avleski lands with a nice body punch. Papieros fails with a takedown attempt. Papieros tries for a takedown but Avleski circles away easily and Avleski counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Papieros! Andrei Avleski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Janek Papieros. Papieros tries to reverse the position but Avleski maintains control. Papieros tries to hold on but Avleski pushes him away. Papieros can't escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Papieros trying desperately to get to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Papieros tries to lock up and control but Avleski gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Papieros is squirming around, avoiding Avleski's attempts to control the action. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Papieros tries to hold on but Avleski postures up. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Avleski controlling the position easily from mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Avleski lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Papieros. Avleski breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Avleski bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Papieros's head backwards. Avleski drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Avleski stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Papieros swivels though and keeps the full guard. Papieros looking to control.

That's one minute gone in the round. Papieros is working an open guard so Avleski takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Papieros is breathing heavily. A good leg kick by Avleski. Avleski lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Avleski instigates a clinch. Avleski lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. Avleski escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Papieros fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Avleski lands with a thumping leg kick.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Avleski here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man. Avleski fails to land the takedown. Andrei Avleski is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Papieros shoots in but no luck this time. Papieros moves in looking to clinch but Avleski pushes him off. Papieros moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Avleski throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Papieros tries to clinch but Avleski is having none of it. Avleski swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. A punch lands to the side of Avleski 's head but he takes it in his stride. Papieros rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Avleski moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Avleski bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Avleski stands up and beckons Papieros to his feet. Papieros rushes Avleski and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Papieros manages to break the clinch.
Papieros tries to clinch but fails miserably and Avleski counters with a right hand to the body. Horrible takedown by Avleski or perhaps it was just good defense by Papieros which made him look bad. Papieros throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Papieros shoots for a double leg takedown but Avleski sprawls well. He's pushed Papieros's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Avleski connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Avleski gets the takedown into side control. You can see the frustration on Papieros's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Papieros tries to improve position but can't. Avleski decides to stand up, so the ref orders Papieros to his feet. Avleski wants to clinch up but Papieros keeps it at a distance. Avleski misses with a few strikes there.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Papieros. Papieros shoots for a takedown but Avleski saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Papieros shoots and misses and Avleski counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Avleski stands up from half guard.

Papieros is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Papieros wants to get back to striking at distance but Avleski won't allow it.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Papieros shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Papieros showed some decent athleticism there. Ground and pound from Papieros. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Papieros postures up in Avleski's guard and throws a big left but Avleski blocks it. Papieros slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Papieros is looking to take a break and control but Avleski is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Papieros is looking to take this fight into the clinch. A chopping leg kick lands by Avleski. Avleski is looking to wear down Papieros with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Avleski falls off balance throwing a combination
and Papieros cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Avleski looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Papieros takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Avleski lands with a kick to the temple. Papieros shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Papieros is rocked! Avleski lands with a jab that stuns his opponent. Papieros is looking to close the distance but Avleski sees it coming and throws a beautiful knee! Papieros crumbles to the mat and that's all she wrote! Let's hope Papieros is OK because that was naaaaaasty!
