Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Michal Mican! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Arona! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Matheus Silva and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Arona fails with a takedown attempt. Mican looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Mican dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Mican stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mican wants it to stay on the feet. Arona misses with a takedown and Mican counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Michal Mican has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ricardo Arona. Arona has his takedown stuffed so Mican counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Mican controls from within his opponent's guard. Mican gets to his feet - Arona follows without any prompting.
That's one minute gone in the round. No luck for Arona with that takedown attempt. Arona keeps the fight on the outside. Mican fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Arona is out of range. Arona shoots in looking for a takedown but Mican manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Arona's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Mican is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Arona's half guard. Arona moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Arona working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mican doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mican manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Arona working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mican doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Arona is tightening it up a little... Mican has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Mican reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Mican taps out! Nice BJJ there by Arona!
