Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mario Gomes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Billy Brown!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Chris Edwards and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown misses with a takedown

and Gomes counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Brown pulls guard successfully.
Gomes controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Gomes tries to free his leg and advance position but Brown is retaining full guard.
Gomes passes Brown's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Gomes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Brown on the ground.
Gomes is nestled in close to Brown, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brown looks like he's trying to stand up.
Gomes keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Gomes decides to stand and escape the position.

Gomes instigates a clinch.

Gomes has Brown pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Gomes pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Brown tumbling to the mat - Gomes dives into Brown's guard.
Gomes controls from within his opponent's guard.
Gomes seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Brown for as long as he can get away with.

Gomes avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Gomes slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Brown wants to stand and escape but Gomes is having none of it.

Gomes's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Gomes circles away from the clinch attempt.
Billy Brown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gomes looks to land a left hand but Brown moved out of range nicely.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gomes misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Brown wants to clinch

and Gomes moves into the clinch.

Brown is trying to break the clinch but Gomes is controlling him.
Brown tries to stall but Gomes uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Brown tries to pull guard but Gomes forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Mario Gomes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Billy Brown.
Brown looks gassed!

Gomes wants the takedown. Brown is fighting it off but Gomes persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Brown's guard against the cage.
Gomes stands and throws Brown's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Brown is being controlled here.
Brown is trying to control Gomes's posture but Gomes avoids it.

Gomes is working Brown over with some ground and pound from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gomes is trying to get an arm triangle but Brown is defending well.
Brown is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gomes controls the position.
Brown is looking to regain half guard here but Gomes keeps moving and retains side control.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Brown manages to work his way to half guard, despite Gomes's best efforts.

Gomes throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Nice takedown defense from Gomes. No joy for Brown on that attempt.
Brown tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Gomes manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Gomes scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Brown takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Brown is looking to reverse the position.
Gomes is staying tight to Brown's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Gomes is working Brown over with some ground and pound from side control.
Brown is breathing heavily.

Gomes lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Brown circles away quickly and effectively.
Brown throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gomes's waist but Gomes gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brown off to one side.

Gomes throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Brown was covering up waiting for the punch and Gomes finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Gomes is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Gomes stands up and waves to Brown to follow him.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Gomes fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Brown to the ground. Gomes is now in Brown's guard.
Gomes seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Gomes has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Brown wants to sweep but no luck.
Gomes is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mario Gomes just wasn't active enough.

Gomes closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Brown's guard.
Brown is trying to keep Gomes in close.
Gomes controls from within his opponent's guard.
Gomes scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Gomes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brown swivels though and keeps the full guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gomes lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Brown backs up against the cage.

Gomes closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Brown quickly recovers to half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gomes connects with a nice short shot to Brown's temple.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Gomes throws a series of punches but Brown moves out of range.
Brown tries to clinch up
and Gomes counters with a one-two to the body.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Brown.

Gomes gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Brown tries to break the clinch but Gomes is controlling the position.

Gomes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Brown throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gomes's waist but Gomes gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brown off to one side.
Brown tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gomes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Brown somewhat.
Mario Gomes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Billy Brown.

Brown gets caught napping as Gomes dives in and scores a takedown. Brown manages to retain guard.
Brown takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Brown is looking to sweep but instead, Gomes has passed into half guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gomes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Gomes really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Gomes has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Gomes decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Gomes stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Brown.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gomes throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Brown tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Gomes is in Brown's guard.

Well Gomes has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Mario Gomes decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
