The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Jeff Smith and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Assante lands a head shot.
Matthews misses the shot to the body.
Matthews throws a big shot that misses.
Matthews throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Assante tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Matthews paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Matthews thows a body shot but no joy.
Matthews throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Assante's waist but Assante gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Matthews off to one side.
Matthews lands a slapping body shot.
Assante throws a nice head kick!
It looks like Matthew Matthews has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Assante throws a half hearted mid kick.
Matthews misses with a body shot.
Matthews throws a leg kick but Assante checks it.

Assante punishes Matthews's body with a nice straight punch.
Assante looks to score with a jab to the body but Matthews is just out of range.

and Assante counters with a big head kick but Matthews shrugs it off.
Assante throws a head kick that misses.
A lazy body kick from Matthews
and Assante makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Matthews throws a nice inside leg kick.
Matthews lands a right hook to the body.
A looping hook to the body misses from Matthews. Assante does a little dance to reset his feet.
Assante throws a head kick but Matthews moves out of range.
Matthews loads up on a big right hand but Assante slips the punch.
Assante lands with a slapping head kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Donk. Matthews catches Assante right on the button with a cross.
Matthews uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Assante.
Assante goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Matthews is rocked!
That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fighters circle, before Assante throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Matthews's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Assante lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!
