PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Billy Jean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ash Ramsey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Billy Jean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ash Ramsey!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Winston Howard and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jean gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Ramsey tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jean just stands there and leans against the cage.

Ramsey jumps guard and drags Jean to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Jean slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Ramsey has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jean can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Jean with a flurry of punches that miss.
Jean trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Ramsey manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Jean wants to stand up but Ramsey is controlling him.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ramsey got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jean has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ramsey has managed to get both his arms back between Jean's legs - danger averted.

Ramsey stands and steps away. Jean gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Ramsey connects with a leg kick. Jean looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Jean tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ramsey doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Jean counters with a shoot takedown. Ramsey fights it but they end up in guard.
Jean is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Ramsey is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jean is aware though and is defending well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jean stands up over Ramsey, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Jean has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Ramsey wants to stand up but Jean is controlling him.

Jean passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Jean is looking to take a break and control but Ramsey is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Jean has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Ramsey throws a nice looking combination but Jean bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Jean feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ramsey wants to improve his position but instead Jean has moved into half guard.
Ramsey looks gassed!
Jean passes the guard and advances to mount!
Jean postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Ramsey looks a forlorn figure.

Jean controlling the pace for now.
Ramsey is in all sorts of trouble here.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Billy Jean dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ramsey is looking to slow Jean down with leg kicks.
Ramsey displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jean.
Jean shoots in but Ramsey avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jean thows a body shot but no joy.
Ramsey closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jean circles away.

Ramsey shoots in for a takedown but Jean shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Billy Jean has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ash Ramsey.

Jean manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ramsey on his heels. He'll look to pass Ramsey's guard now, I'm sure.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Billy Jean.
Jean tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jean is squirming around, avoiding Ramsey's attempts to control the action.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ramsey takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Ash Ramsey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Billy Jean showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Jean has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
