Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Steven Webb! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Igor Alves! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Emerson Jorge and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alves shoots in but no luck this time. Alves circles away from the clinch attempt.
Webb tries to work over Alves's front leg with a kick but Alves checks it. Steven Webb seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Webb doesn't succeed with the takedown and Alves counters with a single leg into guard. Webb didn't expect that. Alves pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Webb is keeping the position for now. Webb looking for a guillotine here but Alves defends easily.
Alves is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Webb throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Webb working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Alves doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Alves manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alves tries to free his leg and advance position but Webb is retaining full guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Alves drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Webb manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Alves has Webb in his guard. Webb wants to control from the top but Alves keeps moving. Alves working for submissions but it's allowed Webb to get to half guard.
Webb is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Alves is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
