PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alex Pierce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lance Storm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Storm is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Ronald Jenkees - Disorganized Fun. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Pierce!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lance Storm!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Storm feints and as Pierce raises his hands in defense, Storm changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Pierce trying to control the position.

Pierce has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Storm is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Pierce.
A lull in the action here.
Storm working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Storm postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Storm wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pierce keeps working.
Storm remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Pierce sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Pierce has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Storm can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Storm is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

You can see the frustration on Pierce's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Pierce manages to reverse the position and now he's in Storm's guard. Nice work there by Pierce.
Pierce sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Storm's guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Storm stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pierce swivels though and keeps the full guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Storm shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pierce but Pierce pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Storm shoots for a double leg takedown but Pierce sprawls well. He's pushed Storm's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Lance Storm seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Pierce lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Storm!

Pierce goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Storm is on top in guard.

Storm got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pierce has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Storm has managed to get both his arms back between Pierce's legs - danger averted.

Storm must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Pierce isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Storm stacks Pierce on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Storm!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Alex Pierce.
I think Pierce has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
