Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dan Davies (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franklin Barret (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dan Davies!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Franklin Barret!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barret keeps the fight on the outside.
Davies throws a nice head kick!
Barret shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Barret feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Barret is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Davies is looking for a sweep. Barret is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Barret is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Davies to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Davies shrugs it off.

and Barret counters with a shoot takedown. Davies fights it but they end up in guard.

Barret got a little sloppy there for a moment and Davies has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Barret has managed to get both his arms back between Davies's legs - danger averted.

Let's hope that Barret has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Franklin Barret showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Davies throws the left hand but Barret avoids the punch easily.
Davies tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Barret manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Barret ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Barret shoots in looking for a takedown but Davies manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Barret's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Barret is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Davies had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Barret defends it easily.

Barret seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Barret is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Davies defends it well.
