Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Benne Mcombs! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David Tuppett! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Felipe Paraventi and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tuppett drives through and clinches with Mcombs against the cage.
Mcombs is trying to maintain a safe position but Tuppett gets an underhook and turns Mcombs into the cage. Mcombs is trying to break the clinch but Tuppett is controlling him. Mcombs turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Mcombs manages to end up in side control. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Tuppett sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Tuppett keeps control of the position for the meantime. Mcombs seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Tuppett does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Tuppett is doing well to control the position and prevent Mcombs from advancing to side control. Tuppett is not content to let Mcombs control the position. Tuppett regains full guard. Nicely done. Tuppett seems keen to control Mcombs's posture. Tuppett manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mcombs manages to get himself to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tuppett working some strikes from top position. Tuppett trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Tuppett thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Tuppett controls the pace of the fight for a moment. That's two minutes gone in the round. Mcombs misses with a low kick. Tuppett gets caught flat footed, as Mcombs shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Tuppett is pulling down on Mcombs's head to control his posture. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Mcombs stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tuppett swivels though and keeps the full guard. Tuppett bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mcombs's guard. Tuppett trying to control but Mcombs is working from the bottom. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Mcombs controls Tuppett momentarily but Tuppett frees himself. Tuppett thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Tuppett decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mcombs misses with a hook. Tuppett ducked under it nicely. Tuppett throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mcombs. Mcombs feints and as Tuppett raises his hands in defense, Mcombs changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Mcombs drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Tuppett dives on top into guard. Tuppett drops back looking for a leg! Mcombs is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mcombs manages to kick Tuppett off! Tuppett jumps back into Mcombs's guard. Tuppett looks gassed! Mcombs can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Tuppett controls the pace. Mcombs looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tuppett content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Mcombs knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tuppett on the ground. Tuppett content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Mcombs controls Tuppett momentarily but Tuppett frees himself. Tuppett's corner is telling him to maintain position. Tuppett wants to control from the top but Mcombs keeps moving. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Tuppett's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Tuppett wants to control from the top but Mcombs keeps moving. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Tuppett drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Tuppett seems to have locked his on tight now - Mcombs screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Tuppett, as he picks up the win!
