Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rico Garza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cody Shubin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Garza's entrance music is Run This Town. A fine choice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rico Garza! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cody Shubin! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shubin checks the leg kick nicely there.
Garza throws a right and a left that Shubin avoids nicely. Shubin fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Garza, pushing him back against the cage. Garza wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Shubin jumps into guard, dragging Garza to the mat.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Garza has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Shubin is proving hard to escape from. Shubin trying to strike off his back.
Shubin is working an open guard so Garza takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Shubin instigates a clinch. Garza breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Shubin dodges the punch combination from Garza.
Shubin shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Garza really wants to buck Shubin off and get back to his feet. This has been an exciting period of action! Garza bucks Shubin off and manages to get back to his feet! Shubin checks a leg kick. Garza takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Garza misses with a few strikes there.
Garza lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Shubin backs up against the cage.
Shubin drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Shubin prevents Garza from getting back to his feet. Garza is breathing heavily. Garza wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Shubin manages to pass to side control. Shubin is trying to control. Garza wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Still in half guard, Shubin seems content to control. Garza kicks Shubin off and gets back to his feet. This has been an exciting period of action! Garza looks to land a combination but Shubin avoids it well. Shubin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Shubin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Shubin wants to control the pace but Garza is squirming around nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shubin thowing shots but they're missing. Garza wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Shubin can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Garza is looking to escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Garza wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Shubin.
Shubin won't let Garza get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Shubin is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Garza to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Garza shrugs it off. Garza is squirming around, avoiding Shubin's attempts to control the action. Garza is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Garza wants to try and get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shubin controlling his opponent. Shubin connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! You get the feeling that Garza really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Shubin looking to control but Garza is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Cody Shubin will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
An inside leg kick from Shubin misses. A low kick from Garza misses and Shubin counters with a flying knee. Nice. A low kick from Garza misses and Shubin moves into the clinch. Garza has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ. Shubin has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Garza clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Garza trying to get back to his feet but Shubin is in full control for now. Garza is keeping busy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Garza is trying to stand back up. Cody Shubin has got the better of the ground game so far. Shubin throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage. Garza defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Garza is trying to shake Shubin off. He's managed it and has hopped back to his feet! Shubin won't be happy about giving up the dominant position. Shubin closes the distance and clinches. Garza's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Garza throws a leg kick and Shubin counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Good work by Shubin as he checks the leg kick. A right-left combo lands from Garza.
It looks like Cody Shubin has been cut. Rico Garza is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Shubin fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Garza, pushing him back against the cage. Garza can't break the clinch.

Shubin pulls guard effortlessly. Garza decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Shubin, up you get! Garza feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Shubin's calf.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Garza tries to sprawl but Shubin drives through with a takedown into half guard. Garza is looking to get back to is feet but Shubin passes into side control.
Garza is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Garza explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! Garza throws a one two combo.
Shubin fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Garza sprawls well initially but Shubin persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Garza wants to get back to his feet. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shubin is controlling the pace.
Garza makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Garza tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Shubin is able to avoid easily. Rico Garza is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Shubin scores a takedown into full mount! Shubin misses with a head shot. Garza is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rico Garza will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Cody Shubin's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Shubin shoots in and bounces Garza off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Garza pushes Shubin off and gets back to his feet.
Garza misses with a series of wild punches.

Shubin shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Garza is refusing to be controlled, as Shubin sits in half guard. Shubin wants to stand but Garza has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Garza has one foot on Shubin's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Shubin gets a double leg takedown into Garza's guard. Shubin tries to free his leg and advance position but Garza is retaining full guard. Garza manages to escape and get back to his feet.
A chopping leg kick lands by Garza. Garza rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Shubin moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Garza throws a right and a left that both miss. Shubin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Garza wants to get back to his feet. Garza makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Shubin pushes Garza up against the cage in a clinch. Shubin is trying to trip Garza. He has hold of a leg but Garza is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Shubin persists though and gets the takedown into guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Garza manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Garza fails to land with a series of punches.
Garza fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Shubin has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Shubin throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Garza was covering up waiting for the punch and Shubin finishes the takedown easily into guard. Shubin trying to control the position from guard on top but Garza is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Garza is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Shubin trying to stall but Garza improves his position.
Shubin gets control of Garza's arms and successfully pulls guard. Shubin will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Garza gets to his feet. Shubin looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Garza misses with a two punch combination.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shubin shoots in and bounces Garza off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Shubin throwing strikes from guard but Garza blocks nicely. Garza wriggles free and stands up. Shubin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Shubin stands up and beckons Garza to his feet. A nice combination there by Garza.
A low kick from Garza is predictable there and Shubin counters with a head kick. That will keep Garza thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Garza will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Shubin feints a jab promting Garza to slip. Shubin then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Garza slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Shubin looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Garza! Garza is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Garza somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet! A nice inside leg kick there by Shubin. That's going to slow Garza down. Garza swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Shubin scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Garza parries the strikes from Shubin easily there. Shubin is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Garza to escape.
Garza is trying to buck Shubin off.
And that's the end of the fight! Cody Shubin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Shubin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
