Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sasha Magamedov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Silva! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Edson Gomes and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Magamedov shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Silva defends it nicely. Magamedov shoots for a takedown but Silva saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Silva fails with a takedown attempt. No luck with that takedown attempt from Silva. A head kick misses from Silva. No luck for Magamedov with that takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sasha Magamedov. That's going to take a lot out of him. Silva pulls out of a head kick attempt.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Silva has eaten all the pies! Magamedov fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Magamedov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Silva sprawls well. Silva wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Magamedov gets slowly back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Magamedov fails with an attempt to clinch.
Silva shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Magamedov pinned against the cage. Magamedov gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Magamedov throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Silva fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Magamedov to the ground. Silva is now in Magamedov's guard. Silva must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Silva pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Magamedov is keeping the position for now. Magamedov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Silva is one step ahead there. Magamedov has his foot on Silva's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Silva works his way back into a safe position though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Silva is looking to stand up but Magamedov won't let him. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Silva trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Silva looks gassed! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Silva postures up.
Magamedov bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Silva's guard. Magamedov pushes down on Silva's leg and manages to get into half guard. Silva is staying active underneath Magamedov, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Silva holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Silva is looking for a sweep. Magamedov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Silva is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Silva won't allow Magamedov to pass to mount. Magamedov is looking for a kimura but Silva is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Magamedov to get the leverage. Silva has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Magamedov is working away from the top position though. Magamedov has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Silva defend it? Magamedov steps over the head and cranks it - Silva is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Magamedov!
