Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Luc Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyle Nowak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Luc Smith has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Luc Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kyle Nowak!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A clash of legs there as Nowak blocks the low kick.
Nowak is looking to clinch.

Smith drives through with a takedown into Nowak's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Smith is stalling in the full guard.
Nowak trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Nowak can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Smith controls the pace.
Smith trying to control but Nowak is working from the bottom.

We're going to have a standup here because Luc Smith wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Smith fails with an attempt to clinch.

Nowak tries to sprawl but Smith drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Smith sitting and controlling from the half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith trying to control from half guard but Nowak is working away.
Smith passes the guard and advances to mount!
Smith throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Smith controlling from mount.
BOOM! Smith connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Nowak tries to lock up and control but Smith gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Smith is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Smith shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Nowak manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Nowak is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Smith passes into half guard.

Smith stands up from half guard.

Smith has taken the fight to the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nowak is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Smith is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Nowak tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Smith smiles and moves away.

Smith has taken the fight to the clinch.

Nowak is fighting off a takedown attempt but Smith is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Nowak to the mat. Nowak regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Smith is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Nowak preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith stays in close to Nowak's body and controls the position.
Smith is pushing down on Nowak's leg trying to pass to half guard. Nowak is fighting to maintain full guard but Smith has managed to sneak the leg through.

Smith postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Nowak to stand up.
Smith lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Nowak circles away quickly and effectively.
Nowak leaves Smith with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Smith.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Smith keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Nowak looks gassed!

Smith fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Nowak, pushing him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luc Smith dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Smith keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Nowak fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nowak misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Nowak gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Smith counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Smith.
Smith wants to control from the top but Nowak keeps moving.
Smith is really struggling to control Nowak but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Nowak utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Smith stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Smith throws a head kick but Nowak moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Smith darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Nowak is breathing heavily.
Smith takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Smith in particular looking to stall.
Nowak tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Nowak is not content to let Smith control the position.
Smith slows the pace down in half guard.
Smith is looking to take a break and control but Nowak is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Luc Smith wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Smith closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Smith fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Nowak to the ground. Smith is now in Nowak's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Smith passes Nowak's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Smith is trying to work for a kimura but Nowak is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith controlling the pace.
Smith wants to control but Nowak is keeping him busy.

Smith is trying to work for a kimura but Nowak is defending well.
Smith is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Nowak can do to turn this around?

Smith wants to work for an arm triangle but Nowak is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Nowak does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Smith moves into full mount! Nowak won't be happy about that!

Smith stands up from mount. Strange move.

Smith clinches with his opponent.

Smith manages to pull guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nowak wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.

Smith looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luc Smith dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Nowak circles away from the clinch attempt
and Nowak counters with a left to the body.
Nowak wants to clinch.
Smith keeps the fight on the outside.
Smith fails in his attempt to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith shoots in but Nowak avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Smith throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Smith throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Nowak tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Smith is in Nowak's guard.
Smith stands and throws Nowak's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nowak keeps working.
Nowak tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smith wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Nowak manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Smith is pressing down on Nowak's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Nowak takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Nowak throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Smith works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Smith is pulling down on Nowak's head. It's preventing any offense from Nowak, at least for the moment.

Nowak has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Smith to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Nowak is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Smith pulls down on the head and he's put Nowak to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Luc Smith!
