The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zangief avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hillis cracks Zangief with a right hand to the side of the head.
It looks like Zangief Zangief has been cut.
Zangief gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Hillis counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Hillis lands a left and a right that send Zangief crashing to the mat, dazed. Hillis thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Zangief shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hillis's guard.

Hillis takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Hillis thows a body shot but no joy.
Hillis lunges at Zangief with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Zangief's hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hillis digs a good body shot into Zangief's ribs.
Hillis doesn't manage to clinch there - Zangief circles away.
Zangief has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Hillis misses with a wild combination.
Peyton Hillis is winning the standup battle so far.
Hillis misses with a series of wild punches.
Peyton Hillis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Zangief.
Hillis fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Hillis lands with a straight right. Zangief didn't see that one coming.
Hillis scores with a decent looking hook.
Hillis lands with an uppercut that bounces Zangief off the cage and back into range.
Hillis drops Zangief with a beautiful combination! Zangief stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Hillis is looking for the KO!
Zangief is still on wobbly legs! Can Hillis finish him?
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Zangief jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Zangief seems to have recovered his senses.
A jab from Hillis does it's job there.
That has opened up Zangief Zangief's cut even more.

Zangief moves forwards but Hillis connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Peyton Hillis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Zangief shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hillis as he jumps to the side.

Zangief gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! Zangief tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Hillis is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and Zangief buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves Zangief!! Zangief is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Hillis throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.
