PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Connor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ginokai Kai Gi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Connor comes to the cage accompanied by Disturbed - Warrior. Ginokai Kai Gi is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Connor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ginokai Kai Gi!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Connor chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kai Gi can pounce on him.
Connor shoots in but no luck this time.
Connor fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Connor is defended easily by Kai Gi.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Connor. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Connor avoids the head kick by Kai Gi.
Kai Gi keeps the fight on the outside.
Kai Gi misses with a jab, cross combination.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Kai Gi enables Connor to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kai Gi manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Kai Gi looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Connor slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kai Gi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Connor trying to control but Kai Gi is working from the bottom.

Connor got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kai Gi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Connor has managed to get both his arms back between Kai Gi's legs - danger averted.
Connor has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Connor avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Connor stays in close to Kai Gi's body and controls the position.

Kai Gi is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Connor is aware though and is defending well.
Connor wants to control from the top but Kai Gi keeps moving.

Kai Gi is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Connor defends well.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Connor avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Connor's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Connor got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kai Gi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Connor has managed to get both his arms back between Kai Gi's legs - danger averted.

Connor lands a couple of elbows.
Connor passes into half guard.
Connor is taking a breather. Kai Gi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Kai Gi won't allow Connor to pass to mount.

Connor is pressing down on Kai Gi's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kai Gi is holding on for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Kai Gi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Connor pulls his head out easily.
Connor has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Kai Gi really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kai Gi slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Connor tries to pass to full mount but Kai Gi defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ginokai Kai Gi dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Connor fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Kai Gi throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Kai Gi fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Connor, pushing him back against the cage.

Kai Gi decides to pull guard.

Kai Gi looking for a triangle here. Connor is fighting it but it looks tight! Kai Gi pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Connor is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Ginokai Kai Gi!
