PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Krav Maga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Andrews (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maga comes to the ring accompanied by fuel. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Krav Maga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jacob Andrews!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Colin Fray and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maga throws a shot from downtown. Andrews moves away and avoids it.
Andrews looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Maga scores with a head kick. Andrews tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.


It looks like Jacob Andrews has been cut.
A combination from Maga does no damage.
Maga throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Andrews stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Maga closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Andrews to the mat! Andrews manages to get full guard.
Maga stays in close to Andrews's body and controls the position.
Maga stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Andrews swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Andrews can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Maga controls the pace.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Maga lands a couple of digs.

Maga gets to his feet - Andrews follows without any prompting.
Maga misses with a few strikes there.

enabling Andrews to counter with a crisp jab.

Andrews gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Maga to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Maga postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Andrews can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Maga controls the pace.
Maga slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Andrews is trying to get back to half guard.

Andrews pushes Maga away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Maga gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Maga wants to lay and pray for a moment but Andrews keeps working.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Maga looks up at the clock and then as Andrews takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Maga smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Maga lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Andrews down.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The strikes coming from Maga are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Maga wants to control but Andrews is keeping him busy.

Maga is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Andrews knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Andrews regains half guard there - taking advantage of Maga's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Andrews looks like he's trying to stand up.
Maga tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Andrews.
Maga seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Andrews does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Maga thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Andrews's head.
Maga is trying to control. Andrews wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Maga is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Andrews is just riding it out for now. Maga eventually gives up the hold.

Maga decides to return to a standing position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Maga fails with a takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Krav Maga dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jacob Andrews's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Maga misses with a double jab.
Andrews fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Maga avoids it really well and circles away.

Maga looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Maga is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Andrews doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Maga.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Maga is keen to just control but Andrews is a slippery customer.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Maga postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Andrews to stand up.
Maga misses with the combination.
Maga lands with a kick to the temple. Andrews shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Maga throws a hook to the side of Andrews's head but Andrews sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Maga closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Andrews to the mat! Andrews manages to get full guard.
Krav Maga overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Andrews is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Andrews working for submissions but it's allowed Maga to get to half guard.

Maga looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Maga not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Maga content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Andrews is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Andrews stuffs the takedown attempt from Maga. Maga gets slowly back to his feet.
Maga fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Andrews dodges the punch combination from Maga.
Andrews stalks Maga and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Maga's face. Maga staggers backwards, shaken.
Maga tries to clinch but Andrews moves out of range.
Maga throws a head kick but Andrews moves out of range.
Maga lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Andrews shoots in looking for a takedown but Maga manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Andrews's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Maga fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Krav Maga. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Andrews throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Andrews tries a head kick but it misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Maga.
Andrews displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Maga.
Krav Maga is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Andrews fails with a takedown attempt.
Maga feints and then cracks Andrews's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Andrews down.
Andrews stuffs the takedown.

Andrews takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Maga will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Andrews looks for a takedown but Maga sprawls well.

Andrews throws a head kick that misses
and Maga counters with a head kick. That will keep Andrews thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Andrews throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Maga.
Maga with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Andrews shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Maga defends it nicely.

Andrews tries for a takedown but Maga circles away easily
and Maga counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Andrews is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Maga shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Andrews sprawls well. Andrews wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Maga gets slowly back to his feet.
Andrews throws a leg kick but Maga checks it.

Andrews shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Maga as he avoids it easily.

Andrews has Maga up against the ropes in a clinch.

Maga escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Maga fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Andrews shoots in for a takedown but Maga shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Maga leaves Andrews with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Andrews gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Maga trying to control the position from guard on top but Andrews is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Andrews is adopting a defensive guard.
Maga slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Jacob Andrews has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Krav Maga is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Maga stands and throws Andrews's legs to the side, diving into side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Krav Maga showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Maga, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
