Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 1, fighting out of London, A Train! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, S S! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Ackerman and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! S shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than S was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! S goes for an armbar but Train turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Train. Train preventing the sweep. S is trying to control the position but Train postures up. S looking to sweep here. No luck so far. S looks gassed! S working for a triangle but Train defends it easily.
Train working some strikes from top position. Train postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Train trying to control but S is working from the bottom. Train looking to pass the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Train has his takedown stuffed and S counters with a nice double leg into guard. S trying to control the position from guard on top but Train is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. S tries to free his leg and advance position but Train is retaining full guard. S slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. S is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Train has escaped the position, nice work there. S tries for a kimura but Train is defending well. Train is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. S goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Train has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for S but great work by Train. S is looking to regain half guard here but Train keeps moving and retains side control. S sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. S wants to improve his position but Train is controlling well.
S gets full guard. S looking to sweep here. No luck so far. There's a bit of a scramble here and now S is on top in guard.
S postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Train is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of S, into his guard. This has been an exciting period of action! S working for a triangle but Train defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Train advances position into side control! Train is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. S knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. S is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Train has just dragged him back down to the mat. S is looking for a sweep. You can see the frustration on S's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Train in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. S is looking for a sweep. S sneaks back into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Train prevents S from improving his position. S moves into full guard.
S working for a triangle but Train defends it easily.
S is looking for a triangle here but Train uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
S is trying to get back to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
S S dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
S fails with the takedown and Train counters with a nice double leg into side control. S won't be happy with that. Train is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down S's shoulder. That is not cool. S tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Train wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. S tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Train presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! S is desperately trying to improve his position but Train has a good base and remains in mount. Train looking for a guillotine from mount but S is having none of it. S is trying to escape the mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Train manages to capitalize on a mistake by S to take his back! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Train has both hooks in and is working for a choke. S is in real trouble here. Train gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, S is tapping out! Train wins by rear naked choke!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). A Train!
