Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Blaze! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lhiner Combs! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Blaze tries to clinch but Combs moves out of range. Combs is trying hard to land a takedown here. Blaze sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Combs throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Blaze tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Combs is in Blaze's guard. Combs drops back, looking for a kneebar! Blaze looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Blaze looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Blaze! Blaze trying to control the action but Combs is working from the bottom. Combs wants to get back to his feet but Blaze is dominant here and he's now got Combs's back! Combs looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands. Blaze is looking for the choke from the back position but Combs is controlling his hands well. Combs is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Blaze's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Combs controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Blaze wants to control but Combs is keeping busy. Combs is trying to get back to his feet but Blaze has full control of the position and if anything, Combs has just worked his way into a worse spot. Combs manages to escape to his feet. Combs shoots in for a double leg but Blaze sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Blaze gets caught flat footed, as Combs shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Combs drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Blaze dives on top into guard. Combs keeping moving, preventing Blaze from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Blaze pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Combs is keeping the position for now. Combs wants to get back to his feet but Blaze is in a dominant position and won't allow it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Combs keeping full guard, as Blaze tries to pass.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Blaze is working hard here to advance position. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Blaze stops Combs from standing up. Blaze trying to control but Combs is working from the bottom.
We're going to have a standup here because Johnny Blaze wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Blaze tries to close the distance and clinch but Combs swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Combs walks into a stiff left hand from Blaze. Blaze displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Combs. Johnny Blaze has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lhiner Combs. Blaze shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Combs as he avoids it easily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Johnny Blaze dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Combs changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Blaze tries to avoid it but Combs manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Blaze to the ground. Blaze escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Nice sprawl there from Combs as Blaze shoots in. Blaze shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Combs but Combs pushes him off and we're back to square one. Combs shoots in and gets a takedown into Blaze's guard. Combs drops back, looking for a kneebar! Blaze looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Blaze looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Blaze! Blaze is looking to take a break and control but Combs is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Combs is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Blaze has just dragged him back down to the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Check out the look on Blaze's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Combs wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Combs really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Blaze. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Blaze advances to mount. Combs is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Blaze lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Blaze trying to control but Combs is having none of it. Blaze landing punches. Johnny Blaze overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Blaze in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Combs wants to try and get back to his feet. Combs has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever. Blaze trying to control momentarily.
Blaze working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Combs is doing well to defend. Blaze seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Combs is forced to tap and this one is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Johnny Blaze!
