Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Willie Bader! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, William Shafer! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shafer clinches up with Bader and pushes him back against the cage. Bader lands a right hand. A left hand lands to the body for Bader.
Shafer fails to pull guard.
Bader tries to throw a body punch but Shafer avoids it by throwing Bader back against the cage. A short right hand to the side of the head by Bader. Bader is struggling to control the position. Bader tries a body shot but Shafer blocks it.
Bader tries to work over Shafer's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Shafer is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Bader can't fight it off and eventually Shafer manages to take the fight to the floor. Bader looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Bader wants to sweep here but Shafer controlling him for the moment. Bader pulls Shafer in close to prevent any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bader working a defensive guard here.
Bader working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shafer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Shafer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Bader is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Shafer has his hands clasped together but Bader extends an breaks Shafer's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Bader.
