Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Viktor Vasilyev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anatoly Karpanov!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Valeri Chadov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Karpanov dives in and scores a takedown into Vasilyev's guard.

Karpanov avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Vasilyev preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vasilyev bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Karpanov's guard.
Vasilyev trying to control the position from guard on top but Karpanov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Karpanov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vasilyev. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Vasilyev advances to half guard.

Vasilyev is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Karpanov sees it coming and defends easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Karpanov can do anything to dispel that myth.

Karpanov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Vasilyev is thwarting Karpanov's attempts to control the position.
Karpanov is looking for a sweep. Vasilyev is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Vasilyev stops Karpanov from getting back to his feet.

Vasilyev seems to be working for a kimura but Karpanov defends the submission attempt.
Vasilyev trying to control the action but Karpanov is working from the bottom.
Karpanov is looking for a sweep. Vasilyev is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Karpanov regains full guard. Nicely done.

Vasilyev got a little sloppy there for a moment and Karpanov has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Vasilyev has managed to get both his arms back between Karpanov's legs - danger averted.

Karpanov looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Karpanov working for a triangle but Vasilyev defends it easily.

Vasilyev postures up and lands a big shot to Karpanov's brow.

Vasilyev drops back looking for a leg! Karpanov is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Karpanov manages to kick Vasilyev off! Vasilyev jumps back into Karpanov's guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Vasilyev pushing down on Karpanov's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Vasilyev is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Karpanov is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Viktor Vasilyev!
A very excited looking Viktor Vasilyev rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
