Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Overeem!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Karnouat Shrishov!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Igor Prikhodko and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shrishov tries a head kick but it misses.
Fedor Overeem seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Overeem fails to land with a series of punches.
Overeem misses with a series of wild punches.
Overeem tries to clinch but Shrishov is having none of it.
Overeem takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Overeem walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Shrishov checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Shrishov walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Overeem wants to clinch
and Shrishov counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Overeem lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Shrishov sprawling to the canvas. Overeem follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Shrishov hang on?
Shrishov is rocked!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Shrishov pushes Overeem off but Overeem dives into side control.
Overeem decides to take the fight back to the feet.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Overeem throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Overeem drops Shrishov with a big left hand and mounts him. Shrishov is in big trouble!
Shrishov is still in real trouble! Can Overeem finish him?
It looks like Karnouat Shrishov has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Shrishov keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Overeem stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Shrishov seems to have recovered his senses.
Oh, that's a big right hand from Overeem and Shrishov goes tumbling to the canvas! Overeem follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.
Shrishov is looking to control Overeem's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Shrishov avoid being mounted?
It looks like Overeem is going to stand back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shrishov wants to sweep but Overeem has passed to side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Overeem decides to stand back up. Overeem steps back and let's Shrishov get back to his feet.
Overeem swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Overeem misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Overeem fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Shrishov throws a right and a left that both miss.
Overeem lands a head shot.
Overeem waves his right hand out in front of him, looking to distract Shrishov. Oh, he's unloaded a beast of a left hand - it worked! He's dropped Shrishov to the canvas! Can he finish him!?
Shrishov is rocked!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Overeem gets to his feet - Shrishov follows without any prompting.
Shrishov is still on wobbly legs! Can Overeem finish him?
Both fighters circle each other, looking for something big. Overeem moves in and throws an overhand right. That hurt Shrishov! Overeem continues to tee off on Shrishov, landing with a left and a right! Overeem connects with a right hand that leaves Shrishov sleeping against the cage! What a finish by Overeem!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Fedor Overeem!
