Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jeff Koscheck!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Robert Douchet and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Koscheck manages to get an easy takedown there - catching McDonald on his heels. He'll look to pass McDonald's guard now, I'm sure.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

McDonald had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Koscheck defends it easily.
McDonald bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Koscheck's guard.
Koscheck preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
McDonald working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Koscheck's head.

Koscheck is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Koscheck working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McDonald doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McDonald manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
McDonald works a leg free and moves into half guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. McDonald connects with a nice short shot to Koscheck's temple.

McDonald is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Koscheck doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time McDonald.
McDonald has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Koscheck is looking to get to half guard.

McDonald can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Koscheck is looking to escape.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Koscheck bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Koscheck tries to free his leg and advance position but McDonald is retaining full guard.

McDonald controls Koscheck momentarily but Koscheck frees himself.

McDonald is looking to sinch up a triangle. Koscheck throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to McDonald's body to avoid the submission. McDonald has instead reached around Koscheck's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! McDonald arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). David McDonald!
David McDonald retains his welterweight title!
