Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Praxedis Guerrero! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kevin Miller ! The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Sergei Dronov and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Guerrero's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Guerrero duly obliges. The crowd cheers as Guerrero lands an impressive looking overhand right. Miller doesn't seem phased though. Sloppy strikes from Guerrero. Those never looked like landing. Miller looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Miller tries to score a power double leg takedown but Guerrero sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Miller somewhat. Guerrero throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Miller . Guerrero clinches with his opponent.
Miller jumps guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Miller looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Miller working for a triangle but Guerrero defends it easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Miller wants to sweep here but Guerrero controlling him for the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miller has his hands on Guerrero's head, controlling the position. Miller pushes Guerrero off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Guerrero tries to clinch there but Miller circles away.
Miller fails with a takedown attempt. Miller closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Miller jumps guard and drags Guerrero to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Miller seems keen to control Guerrero's posture. Guerrero is looking to stand up but Miller won't let him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Miller pulls Guerrero in close to prevent any damage. Let's hope that Miller has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Kevin Miller wasn't active enough on the ground. Miller fails to land with a series of punches.
Guerrero moves in looking to clinch but Miller pushes him off. Miller moves forwards but Guerrero connects with a nice, crisp jab. Guerrero tests Miller 's chin there with a solid looking shot. This has been an exciting period of action! Miller shoots in for a takedown but Guerrero shows good takedown defense. Praxedis Guerrero has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kevin Miller . Miller misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Guerrero.
Guerrero throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Miller finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Miller fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Miller looks gassed! Miller moves forwards but Guerrero connects with a nice, crisp jab. Guerrero rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Miller moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Guerrero throws a nice looking combination but Miller bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Guerrero lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Miller circles away quickly and effectively. The fight moves into the clinch position. Miller jumps guard but Guerrero stands there with Miller around his waist. Miller gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Miller is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Guerrero pulls him back up using the underhooks. Miller working hard to break the clinch. Miller blocks an uppercut.
Guerrero throws a head punch that misses. Guerrero throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Miller s head. Miller drags the fight down to the ground.
Miller keeping moving, preventing Guerrero from controlling successfully. Miller has a closed guard, preventing Guerrero from standing up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Guerrero trying to control but Miller is working from the bottom.
We're going to have a standup here because Praxedis Guerrero wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Guerrero tries to bum rush Miller with a series of wild strikes but Miller uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Miller avoids the head kick by Guerrero.
Miller jabs at Guerrero's body. A combination from Miller does no damage. Guerrero tests Miller 's chin there with a solid looking shot. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Miller takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Miller is rocked! The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! No joy there for Guerrero, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Miller is still on wobbly legs! Can Guerrero finish him? Miller circles away from the clinch attempt.
Miller seems to have recovered his senses. Guerrero swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Miller counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Praxedis Guerrero will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Guerrero circles away from the clinch attempt.
Guerrero throws a right and a left that both miss. Miller fails with a takedown attempt. Miller showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Guerrero.
Guerrero tries to clinch up. Good work by Guerrero as he checks the leg kick. Guerrero goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Guerrero swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Miller makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Praxedis Guerrero is winning the standup battle so far. Guerrero misses with a series of wild punches.
A combination from Guerrero does no damage. Guerrero works over Miller 's head and body with a nice combination. Miller shoots in looking for a takedown. Guerrero tries to sprawl out of it but Miller keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Guerrero manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Praxedis Guerrero is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Guerrero throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Guerrero throws a series of punches but Miller avoids them all with ease. Guerrero paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Guerrero looks for a left high kick but can't connect. Guerrero backs up to catch a breather... no he lunges forward with a huge flying knee that smacks Miller 's temple! It sends Miller violently to the canvas! The crowd goes nuts as Guerrero celebrates and the doctors try to help Miller !
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Flying Knee). Praxedis Guerrero!
