Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matos misses with the combination.
Gomes looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Gomes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Matos's waist but Matos gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gomes off to one side.
Nice straight punches there by Matos. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Matos.

It looks like Barroso Gomes has been cut.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Matos wants to get up but he can't break Gomes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Gomes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Matos stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gomes swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Matos postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Matos gets to his feet. Gomes looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Matos misses with a wild combination.
Matos lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Matos's jab looks to have found its range, popping Gomes under the eye.

Gomes is rocked!

Matos is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Gomes flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Gomes is out cold! Matos holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!

After the fight, Charles Matos was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
