Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
19 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimmy Russo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rainbow Trout! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jonathan Paton and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Russo misses with a looping left. Trout tries to clinch up but Russo circles away and keeps his distance. Russo thows a leg kick but Trout checks it and Trout counters with a nice kick to the body. Russo misses with a body kick. Trout tries to work over Russo's front leg with a kick but Russo checks it. Trout ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Trout scores with a kick to the midsection. Russo throws a body punch but Trout moves out of range. Russo slips a jab from Trout. Russo connects with the punch. Russo fails with a takedown attempt. A good leg kick by Trout. Trout swings for the body but Russo moves out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Trout throws a nice head kick!
Russo wants to slow Trout down by chopping away at his legs. Trout cracks the inside of Russo's front leg. Russo is looking to clinch but Trout is avoiding it.
Russo decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Russo is keen to just control but Trout is a slippery customer. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Russo is looking for a kimura but Trout is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Russo to get the leverage. Trout is staying active underneath Russo, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Trout kicks Russo off and gets back to his feet. Russo tries a head kick but it misses.
Russo throws out a loose jab but Trout uses good head movement to avoid it. Trout lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
This has been an exciting period of action! Trout misses with an attempted mid kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Trout checks a leg kick. Russo clobbers Trout with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Trout gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Russo avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Russo on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Trout misses with a body kick. Russo misses the jab. Russo misses with a kick to the body.

Russo throws a body kick the misses and Trout counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. A decent looking body kick lands there for Russo.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Trout throws a leg kick but Russo checks it. Trout lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Trout tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Russo paws at him with a jab and circles away. Trout misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

and Russo counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Trout! Russo controlling the position easily from mount. Russo throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Russo avoids the attempt from Trout to control. Trout really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Russo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Trout in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Trout tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Russo has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Trout's face.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Trout can do anything to dispel that myth. Russo throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Russo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Russo raining down hammerfists from mount. Trout is trying desperately to improve position. Russo scores with a couple of good head shots there.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Russo can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Trout is looking to escape. Trout ducks right into an uppercut from Russo. Trout tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Russo paws at him with a jab and circles away. Trout gets caught flat footed, as Russo shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Trout pulls Russo in to control the position. Russo in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Trout is adopting a defensive guard. Trout can't keep his opponent in guard - Russo advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Trout is staying active underneath Russo, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Russo is working for a submission of some sort.

Russo misses with a straight right. Trout wants to clinch. Russo fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Trout sprawls well initially but Russo persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Nice strikes from Russo there. Russo stalling. Russo works his way into side control. Trout tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Russo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Jimmy Russo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Trout is not content to let Russo control the position. Russo tries to move to mount but Trout blocks the move with his legs. Russo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Trout keeps working. Russo is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Trout will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Russo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Trout keeps working. That's three minutes gone in the round. Russo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Trout moves away. Russo takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. Trout closes the distance and pushes Russo back into the cage. Russo can't get the takedown.
Trout lands a right hand. Russo lands a hook that snaps the head of Trout backwards. A short right from Trout on the inside. Trout tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Trout has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Russo goes for a takedown in the clinch but Trout prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jimmy Russo. That's going to take a lot out of him. Russo can't get the takedown.

Russo is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Russo has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Trout clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Trout manages to reverse the position and now he's in Russo's guard. Nice work there by Trout.
Rainbow Trout has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Trout tries to stand but Russo is controlling from the bottom. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Trout avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jimmy Russo. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Russo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
