Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nick Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kai Urutaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nick Diaz has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nick Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kai Urutaka!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Jeff Smith and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Urutaka showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Diaz.
Urutaka keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Urutaka drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Diaz can't do much from the bottom here.
Diaz wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Urutaka decides to stand back up. Urutaka steps back and let's Diaz get back to his feet.
Diaz pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Urutaka back to the ropes. Diaz follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Urutaka checks a leg kick.
Diaz swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Urutaka counters by moving into the clinch.
Diaz looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Urutaka has hold of one of Diaz's legs. Diaz is fighting the takedown attempt but Urutaka gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Urutaka stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Diaz throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Diaz uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Urutaka has time to react.
A looping hook to the body misses from Urutaka. Diaz does a little dance to reset his feet.

Diaz tries to break free but Urutaka pushes him back against the ropes.

Urutaka keeps control of Diaz as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Urutaka breaks the clinch.
Diaz fails to land with a series of punches.

Urutaka clinches with his opponent.
Urutaka prevents Diaz from breaking the clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the ropes, Urutaka creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Urutaka lands an elbow that stopped Diaz in his tracks for a moment.

Diaz looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Diaz is trying to force a seperation but Urutaka has the dominant position.

Urutaka's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Urutaka scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Urutaka rushes Diaz and presses him up against the ropes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Diaz is looking to break free of the clinch but Urutaka has double underhooks.
Urutaka is struggling to control the position.
Diaz tries to break free but Urutaka pushes him back against the ropes.

Urutaka breaks the clinch.
Diaz lands a jab-cross combination.

Urutaka clinches with his opponent.

Urutaka ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Urutaka no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Urutaka seems keen to control Diaz's posture.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Urutaka gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Diaz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Urutaka swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Diaz avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Urutaka is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Diaz wants to control from the top but Urutaka keeps moving.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Nick Diaz wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Diaz misses with a jab, cross combination.
Diaz throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Urutaka sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Urutaka walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Urutaka will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Diaz tries to land a leg kick but Urutaka saw it coming and moves away.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kai Urutaka dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Diaz tries to bum rush Urutaka with a series of wild strikes but Urutaka uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Nick Diaz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Urutaka has taken the fight to the clinch.
Diaz wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Urutaka pulls guard.

Urutaka had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Diaz defends it easily.
Urutaka wants to get back to his feet but Diaz is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Urutaka looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Diaz wants to control from the top but Urutaka keeps moving.
Urutaka is striking from the bottom but Diaz uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Nick Diaz.
Urutaka takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Diaz swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

Urutaka misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Diaz.

Urutaka is working on a single leg takedown against the ropes. Diaz can't fight it off and eventually Urutaka manages to take the fight to the floor. Diaz looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Urutaka must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Urutaka got a little sloppy there for a moment and Diaz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Urutaka has managed to get both his arms back between Diaz's legs - danger averted.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Diaz has his foot on Urutaka's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Urutaka works his way back into a safe position though.

Urutaka has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Diaz uses from the top position.

Urutaka turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Diaz sneaks back into half guard.
Diaz wants to control but Urutaka is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Urutaka decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Diaz misses with a double jab

and Urutaka counters by clinching up.
Diaz is trying to break free.
Urutaka prevents Diaz from breaking the clinch.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Urutaka tightens his grip and picks Diaz up, before dumping him to the ground. Diaz manages to land in guard.

Diaz is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Urutaka is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Kai Urutaka is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
