Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jake Palhares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grape Ape (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Grape Ape will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jake Palhares ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Grape Ape! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Thiago Cunha and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Palhares decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Ape is trying to stand back up but Palhares is controlling him
Ape trying to hold on to Palhares 's head to control him but Palhares postures up.
Palhares content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Palhares thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ape's head. Palhares is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Ape sees it coming and defends easily. Ape trying to control but Palhares postures up.
Ape is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Palhares takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Ape wants to control but Palhares is keeping busy.
Palhares tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ape knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ape wants to get back to full guard. Ape trying to control but Palhares postures up.
Palhares lands with a punch from half guard. Palhares seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Ape trying to control here.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Grape Ape. Ape shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Palhares as he jumps to the side. Ape gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Palhares to score an easy takedown into full guard. Palhares landing with the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Palhares pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ape is keeping the position for now. Palhares scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Palhares tries to free his leg and advance position but Ape is retaining full guard. Palhares makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Palhares pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ape is keeping the position for now. Palhares stands up from Ape's guard - Palhares perhaps looking for a knockout. Palhares defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ape. Ape on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Palhares . Palhares obviously looking to wear him down.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ape fails with the takedown. Jake Palhares has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Grape Ape. Palhares throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Palhares instigates a clinch. Ape is trying to push Palhares away but Palhares has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Palhares wants the takedown. Ape is fighting it off but Palhares persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Ape's guard against the cage. Palhares looking to pass the guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Palhares postures up.
Ape looking for a sweep. Not yet Ape, not yet. Palhares trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Ape is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Ape is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ape trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Palhares loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Palhares pushing down on Ape's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Palhares sitting and controlling from the half guard. Palhares winds up and cracks Ape with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Nice strikes from Palhares there. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Palhares stands up and beckons Ape to join him on the feet. Palhares moves into range and clinches up with Ape. Palhares gets control of Ape's arms and successfully pulls guard. Palhares will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ape tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Ape lands a jab-cross combination. Ape has a takedown stuffed. Palhares shoots in and gets a takedown into Ape's guard. Palhares looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Ape looking for a sweep. Not yet Ape, not yet. Palhares lands a couple of decent looking shots. Ape controls Palhares momentarily but Palhares frees himself. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Palhares decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ape, up you get!
That's one minute gone in the round. Ape darts in trying to clinch and Palhares counters with a nice double leg into guard. Palhares advances to half guard. Palhares looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Palhares wants to work for an arm triangle but Ape is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Ape tries to roll over but Palhares keeps him under control. Ape is looking to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Palhares stalling. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Palhares is thwarting Ape's attempts to control the position. Palhares uses his free foot to push down on Ape's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Ape. Ape tries to get back to half guard but can't. Palhares lands a big elbow. Palhares with good strikes from the mount here! Palhares controlling his opponent. Palhares postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Ape looks a forlorn figure.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Palhares looking to secure an arm triangle but Ape defends it well. Ape bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Ape forces his way into half guard. Ape is trying to control. Palhares wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Palhares manages to get to full guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Palhares pulls Ape in close to prevent any damage.
Grape Ape has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Palhares shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ape tries to close the distance and clinch up but Palhares swats him away and circles back towards the center. Palhares slaps away a takedown attempt from Ape, before circling back to the center of the mat. Palhares pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ape gets caught flat footed, as Palhares shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Palhares looking to pass the guard. Ape tries to land a sweep but no joy. Ape looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Palhares passes into side control.
Ape is positioning himself to get back to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Palhares staying calm. Ape takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Palhares is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ape is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Ape is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Palhares off and has taken his back! Ape doesn't have the hooks in and Palhares manages to turn into his guard.
Palhares connects with a couple of short punches. Palhares passes Ape's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Palhares frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Palhares sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Ape is looking to improve his position but Palhares isn't that keen on the idea. Palhares landing strikes from the mount and Ape is in trouble! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Ape tries to hold on but Palhares pushes him away. Palhares controlling from the full mount. Ape is trying desperately to improve position. Ape is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Jake Palhares overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee warns Ape that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Palhares avoids the attempt from Ape to control. Ape wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Palhares has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Ape's face.
Palhares is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Ape can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Palhares is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Palhares !
