Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jeffrey Nichols! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Billy Marx! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, John Mangel and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Marx tries to clinch but Nichols is having none of it. Nichols fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Marx misses with a takedown and Nichols counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Marx tries to bum rush Nichols with a series of wild strikes but Nichols uses good footwork to avoid the assault. A left lands for Nichols. Marx moves in looking to clinch but Nichols pushes him off. Nichols misses with a head kick.
Marx tries to clinch up and Nichols counters with a nice body shot. Nichols moves into range and connects with a jab. Nichols thows a body shot but no joy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Marx bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Nichols scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Marx doesn't seem bothered though. Marx throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Nichols throws a right hand that misses
and Marx counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Marx is looking to take a break and control but Nichols is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Marx has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Nichols works to full guard. Nichols looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Marx engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Marx trying to control the position from guard on top but Nichols is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Billy Marx. Nichols leaves Marx with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Marx changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Nichols looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Marx trying to control the position but Nichols is working away. Marx is trying to ground and pound but Nichols uses the momentary lack of control by Marx to regain half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nichols wants to get back to full guard. Nichols is working hard here to advance position. Marx trying to control the action but Nichols is working from the bottom. Nichols is looking to improve his position.
Nichols is refusing to be controlled, as Marx sits in half guard.

Billy Marx has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Marx fails with the takedown. Jeffrey Nichols has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Billy Marx. Nichols connects with a jab. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Marx shoots in but no luck this time. Marx shoots and misses letting Nichols counter with a right hand. Nichols fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Billy Marx dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Nice uppercut there from Nichols. Marx moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Nichols gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Marx trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Nichols manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Marx managing to control the position. Marx is looking to sweep but instead, Nichols has passed into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Marx is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Nichols jumps into side control! Marx is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Nichols off and has taken his back! Marx wants to control but Nichols manages to buck him off and is now in Marx's guard! Nice work there by Nichols! Nichols trying to control but Marx is working from the bottom. Marx controls Nichols momentarily but Nichols frees himself.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nichols is standing up over Marx. Marx looks to escape but Nichols dives into side control.
Marx is looking to regain half guard here but Nichols keeps moving and retains side control. Nichols is looking to take a break and control but Marx is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Nichols looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Marx is trying to control Nichols's posture but Nichols avoids it.

That's four minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Marx's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Nichols wants to lay and pray for a moment but Marx keeps working. Marx is trying to control Nichols's posture but Nichols avoids it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Billy Marx will probably get the nod - 10:9. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!
Nichols fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Marx on the side of the head. Marx clinches up against the cage. Nichols's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Marx misses with a double jab
and Nichols connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Nichols throws a body kick the misses and Marx holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Marx blocking some punches.
Marx has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Nichols after a bit of a struggle. Marx wants a takedown.
Marx pulls guard effortlessly. Nichols wants to control from the top but Marx keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nichols not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Nichols sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Marx's guard. Nichols seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Marx does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Marx trying to control from the bottom.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Marx is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Nichols jumps into side control! Jeffrey Nichols has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Marx is looking for a sweep. Nichols swings around for an armbar but Marx sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Nichols's guard. Marx must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Nichols looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Marx is defending well. Nichols quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Marx has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Nichols celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
