PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jan Kowalski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Noonan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Noonan has chosen 3DD - Kryptonite as his entrance music. Michael Noonan told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Jan Kowalski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Michael Noonan!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, William Gold and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Noonan misses with a double jab

and Kowalski counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Noonan!
Noonan tries to reverse the position but Kowalski maintains control.

Noonan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Kowalski is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Noonan sees it coming and defends easily.

Kowalski shoots for a takedown but Noonan saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Kowalski shoots in for a double leg but Noonan sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Kowalski shoots for a double leg takedown but Noonan sprawls well. He's pushed Kowalski's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Noonan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Kowalski takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Kowalski fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kowalski shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Noonan as he avoids it easily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Noonan tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Kowalski's elbow.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Noonan swings wildly with an uppercut but Kowalski uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kowalski is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Noonan to keep the fight standing.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Noonan lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Kowalski or not.

Michael Noonan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fight stays on the outside here - Noonan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Kowalski decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Noonan tries to kick Kowalski off but Kowalski keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Kowalski is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Noonan is just riding it out for now. Kowalski eventually gives up the hold.
Noonan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kowalski is working away from the top position though.
Jan Kowalski overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kowalski jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Noonan is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Noonan and Kowalski has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Noonan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kowalski wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kowalski thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
You can see the frustration on Noonan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Kowalski is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Noonan knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Kowalski got a little sloppy there for a moment and Noonan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kowalski has managed to get both his arms back between Noonan's legs - danger averted.

I would just about give that final round to Michael Noonan.
Well Noonan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
