PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mietek Kolakusic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ross Weiss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ross Weiss was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mietek Kolakusic!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ross Weiss!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Steve Erwin and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kolakusic leaves Weiss with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Kolakusic gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Weiss passes Kolakusic's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Weiss not doing much here.
Weiss blocks the strikes from Kolakusic.
Weiss stalling.
Weiss is thwarting Kolakusic's attempts to control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ross Weiss.
Kolakusic clobbers Weiss with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Weiss shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Weiss was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Kolakusic tries to lock up and control but Weiss gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Kolakusic is in a horrible position here. Weiss smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Weiss tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Weiss shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kolakusic pinned against the cage. Kolakusic gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Mietek Kolakusic has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ross Weiss.
Kolakusic throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Kolakusic enables Weiss to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kolakusic manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Kolakusic has an active guard here but Weiss has managed to pass into half guard.

Weiss frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Weiss takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Weiss postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kolakusic looks a forlorn figure.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ross Weiss hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Ross Weiss showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Kolakusic tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Weiss was well out of range. Poor timing from Kolakusic.
Weiss takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Weiss shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
enabling Kolakusic to counter with a crisp jab.
Ross Weiss seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Kolakusic counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Weiss shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kolakusic pinned against the cage. Kolakusic gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Weiss walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

The fighters circle momentarily. Kolakusic darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Kolakusic will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Weiss tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kolakusic sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Weiss somewhat.
Kolakusic shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Weiss takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Weiss shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kolakusic as he avoids it easily.
Kolakusic stuffs the takedown.
Kolakusic bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Weiss's head.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Weiss scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
A lull in the action here as Weiss stalls from top position.

The referee asks Weiss politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Weiss prefers to stall for the moment though.
Kolakusic manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Weiss is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ross Weiss wasn't active enough on the ground.

Weiss shoots in and gets a takedown into Kolakusic's guard.

Weiss stands and throws Kolakusic's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Weiss controlling the position from side mount.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mietek Kolakusic has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ross Weiss is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Weiss takes advantage of some sloppy striking from Kolakusic to pass into mount.

I would just about give that final round to Ross Weiss.
I've got Weiss winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
