Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Daniel Goncalves! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Felipe Dos Santos! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Alexandre Firmino and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Goncalves keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Goncalves shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Dos Santos napping and manages to drive through into side control! Goncalves decides to stand back up. Goncalves steps back and let's Dos Santos get back to his feet. Goncalves throws a push kick but Dos Santos slaps the foot to one side. Goncalves throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Dos Santos tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Goncalves is in Dos Santos's guard. Goncalves trying to control the position from guard on top but Dos Santos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Goncalves looking to pass the guard. Dos Santos being controlled here, momentarily. Goncalves prevents Dos Santos from getting back to his feet. Goncalves might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Goncalves wants to control from the top but Dos Santos keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Daniel Goncalves just wasn't active enough. Dos Santos is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Goncalves's half guard. Dos Santos looks gassed! The fighters are battling for position here. Goncalves manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Goncalves is looking to stand up but Dos Santos isn't so interested in that idea. Goncalves bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Dos Santos's guard. Dos Santos throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Goncalves stays in close to Dos Santos's body and controls the position. Goncalves could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Dos Santos striking off his back but it's not causing Goncalves any problems. Goncalves avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Dos Santos keeping moving, preventing Goncalves from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Goncalves throwing strikes but missing. Goncalves slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Dos Santos. This has been an exciting period of action! Goncalves is looking to take a break and control but Dos Santos is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Goncalves is controlling the pace.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Goncalves wants to control but Dos Santos is keeping him busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Goncalves is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Goncalves is working for a kimura but Dos Santos is defending it quite comfortably.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Goncalves is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dos Santos is refusing to be controlled, as Goncalves sits in half guard. Dos Santos is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Goncalves landing shots from mount. Dos Santos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Goncalves. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Goncalves cracks Dos Santos with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Goncalves lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Goncalves raining down shots from the mount! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Dos Santos tries to reverse the position but Goncalves maintains control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Goncalves tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Dos Santos was well out of range. Poor timing from Goncalves. Goncalves scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dos Santos can do anything to dispel that myth. Dos Santos is trying to maintain the position but Goncalves is very close to passing his half guard. Goncalves is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Dos Santos! Dos Santos tries to lock up and control but Goncalves gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Dos Santos is trying to escape the mount.
Goncalves trying to control but he's not successful this time. Goncalves controlling his opponent. Goncalves wants to control the pace but Dos Santos is squirming around nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Goncalves with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Dos Santos is breathing heavily. Goncalves takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Goncalves scoring with strikes but Dos Santos is staying in there. Dos Santos is working to get back to half guard.
Goncalves controlling from the full mount. Daniel Goncalves overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Dos Santos is squirming around, avoiding Goncalves's attempts to control the action. Goncalves has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Goncalves is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Dos Santos can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
