Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Pan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alaixys Romao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pan comes to the cage accompanied by "I Believe I Can Fly" by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. The key to victory for Patrick Pan has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Patrick Pan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alaixys Romao!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pan throws a series of strikes that have Romao backpedaling.
Pan throws a nice outside leg kick.
Pan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Pan scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Pan fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Pan throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Romao will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Pan getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
A jab from Pan does it's job there.
Pan avoids the body shot from Romao.

Romao looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Romao wants to take a breather but Pan is having none of it.

Romao is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Pan defends it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pan looks like he's trying to stand up.
Romao is controlling the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pan is looking to escape.

Romao is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Romao missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Romao is looking to take a break and control but Pan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Romao prevents Pan from standing back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Romao trying to control the action but Pan is working from the bottom.
Romao stalling away here and it's allowed Pan to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Pan wants to stand but Romao is controlling the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Pan lands a nice looking body shot.
Romao misses with a double jab
and Pan counters with a two punch combo.
Romao looks gassed!

Pan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Romao sprawls well initially but Pan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Romao wants to improve his position but Pan is controlling well.
Romao has hold of Pan's hands but Pan slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The fighters are battling for position here. Romao manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Romao looking for a sweep. Not yet Romao, not yet.
Romao keeping moving, preventing Pan from controlling successfully.
Pan wanted to stand there but Romao had control of the position.
Romao is trying to keep Pan in close.
Romao tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Romao looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Romao throws his legs up looking for a submission but Pan uses it to pass to side control.
Romao wants to control but Pan postures up.
Romao sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Romao works his way to full guard. Good work.
Romao lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Pan!
Romao looking to control but Pan is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Romao lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Pan hang on?
Romao tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrick Pan dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Pan circles away from the clinch attempt.
Pan lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Pan.
Some wild striking there from Pan.
Pan stuns Romao with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Pan swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Romao wants to clinch.
The fighters circling - Romao throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Romao shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Romao controlling from mount.
Romao fails to move to back control.
Romao trying to control but Pan is having none of it.

Romao looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Romao is breathing heavily.
Romao dominating with strikes here.
Romao with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

Romao wants to control the pace but Pan is squirming around nicely.
Pan is bucking up trying to escape but Romao cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Romao wants to take Pan's back here but Pan is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Romao with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Romao misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Romao is working for a guillotine from mount but Pan frees his head quite easily.
Romao looking to control but Pan is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Pan tries to reverse the position but Romao maintains control.
Pan has given up his back here. Will Romao look for the submission or keep pounding away?

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Romao is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Pan knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Pan for a finish.

Romao has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Pan! Can he survive? No! He's out! Romao gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
