PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Richard Okusaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ping Wong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Richard Okusaka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ping Wong!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Felipe Paraventi and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wong shoots for a takedown but Okusaka saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Wong counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Wong controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Wong is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Okusaka could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Okusaka pulls Wong in close to his closed guard and prevents Wong from doing any damage or advancing position.

Let's hope that Wong has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Wong stands and throws Okusaka's legs to the side, diving into side control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Okusaka is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Wong controlling the position from side mount.
Wong is looking to take a break and control but Okusaka is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Despite being in the dominant position, Ping Wong just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Wong drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wong accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Okusaka wants to sweep but no luck.
Wong not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Okusaka is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Wong is stalling in the full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Wong's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wong wants to control from the top but Okusaka keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ping Wong dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Wong keeping moving, preventing Okusaka from controlling successfully.
Wong bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Okusaka's guard.

Okusaka trying to keep a closed guard but Wong is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Wong seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Wong wants to control but Okusaka is keeping him busy.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Wong postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Okusaka tries to bench press Wong off him but Wong keeps the position.
Wong lands some shots froms side control.
Wong in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Ping Wong showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Okusaka fails with the takedown

Wong must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Okusaka had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Wong is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Okusaka Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Wong's back instead.

Okusaka has got one arm under Wong's chin. This could be trouble... Wong trying to control the other hand but Okusaka gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Wong has tapped out! The fight is over!
