Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rafael Pierce! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Francis Jordan! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Mauricio Rocha and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jordan scores with a crisp jab that stopped Pierce in his tracks. Pierce changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jordan tries to avoid it but Pierce manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jordan to the ground. Jordan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Pierce misses with a takedown attempt and Jordan counters with a slapping leg kick. Pierce tries for a takedown but Jordan circles away easily and Jordan counters with a slapping leg kick. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rafael Pierce. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pierce doesn't succeed with the takedown and Jordan counters with a three punch combo that has Pierce backing up. Pierce nods at Jordan to acknowledge the strikes. Pierce shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Pierce closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Jordan's guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Pierce trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Jordan wants to sweep here but Pierce controlling him for the moment. Jordan looking to control.
Jordan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pierce. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Jordan is looking for a triangle but Pierce pushes his legs off easily.
Pierce looking to pass the guard. Jordan striking off his back but it's not causing Pierce any problems.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jordan working a defensive guard but Pierce passes into half guard.
Pierce seems to be working for a kimura but Jordan defends the submission attempt. Jordan tries to roll over but Pierce keeps him under control. Jordan is defending against the submission attempts here by Pierce.
Pierce works his way into side control. Pierce is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jordan has escaped the position, nice work there. Pierce has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Jordan is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Pierce yanks on the arm and Jordan is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Pierce.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Rafael Pierce! A very excited looking Rafael Pierce rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
