PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dane Cook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronnie Ronbo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cook comes to the cage accompanied by Lifeless by 12 Stones. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Dane Cook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Ronnie Ronbo!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, William Peck and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cook throws a right and a left that both miss.
Cook circles away from the clinch attempt.
Cook misses with an uppercut.
Ronbo bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Ronbo avoids the body shot from Cook.
Ronbo tries to clinch but Cook moves out of range.
Cook avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cook throws a series of punches but Ronbo avoids them all with ease.
Dane Cook seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ronbo shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Cook eats them both and turns towards Ronbo to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Ronbo moves into the clinch.
Cook is struggling to control the position.
Cook lands a body shot in the clinch.
Cook has Ronbo pressed against the cage, preventing Ronbo from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Ronbo looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Ronbo connects with a knee to the head.
Ronbo displaying some good clinch control by pressing Cook up against the cage.
Cook can't break the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cook tries to circle away but Ronbo has him pinned against the cage.

Ronbo breaks the clinch.
Ronbo takes one to the side of the head.
Cook rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Ronbo counters with a one-two to the body.
Ronbo throws a right and a left that Cook avoids nicely.
Cook swings for the body but Ronbo moves out of range.
Cook lands a leg kick that knocks Ronbo off balance momentarily.
Cook fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Ronbo manages to avoid it.
Ronbo checks the leg kick.
Cook connects with a nice looking jab.
Cook throws an overhand right that lands on Ronbo's shoulder, as Ronbo tries to avoid the shot.

Ronbo moves into range and clinches up with Cook.

Cook breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ronbo closes the distance but Cook moves to the side
and Cook connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cook throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Ronbo wants to clinch.
Ronbo walks into a left hand.

Ronbo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Cook, pushing him back against the cage.

Ronbo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cook stalks Ronbo and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Ronbo's face. Ronbo staggers backwards, shaken.
Ronbo is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Cook throws a predictable looking body shot
and Ronbo counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Ronbo throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ronbo tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Cook counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Ronbo thinking.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ronbo keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Jab, jab by Ronbo - just one landing.
Cook scores with a punch to the head.
Cook fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A swing and a miss from Cook.
Cook misses with a series of wild punches.
Cook moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
A cross from Cook lands.


Ronbo is rocked!
Cook throws a head kick that misses.
Cook misses with a wild body shot.
Cook avoids a punch combination nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cook misses with a straight left.
Cook takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Ronbo is still on wobbly legs! Can Cook finish him?
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cook scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Ronbo doesn't seem bothered though.
Cook checks a low kick from Ronbo.
Cook is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Cook walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Ronbo drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Cook swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Ronbo's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dane Cook!
Dane Cook was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
